If I recall correctly, that was a bug that had nothing to do with the internal pacing, and anyway has since been fixed.

It was called something else: version 2. And the vast majority of players are not even aware of most of the changes you are upset about, because they are not and were never intended to be part of the game. They were accidents of the way v1 was implemented.

No, we're not. We're talking about undocumented behavior of TWGS v1.

The door version was never designed for more than one player at a time. HVS supported multiplayer, but I'm pretty sure more people came to TWGS from the door version than ever played HVS. The point is that each version has been different. In fact, TWGS v1 and v2 are probably more alike than any two other versions.

Funny, I don't perceive any lack of support from JP. The fact that he's still working on TWGS is the reason I shelved my own game and wrote a helper instead.

Player activity always drops off in the summer. Before Christmas there will be a shiny new helper for v2 that's as fast as TWX, as user-friendly as SWATH, and free to boot. We'll see what happens then.

Unless you are a veteran player that plays competitively, you won't recognize the problems that v2 has. Hence the reason that Cruncher and Mongoose don't recognize the problems. I'm sure you won't see any of the bugs v2 has with a colonizer script or a sst script.
Once these players actually learn to play the game they will figure out that v2 is pretty much worthless for competitive play.

"The game" you're referring to being the ping game that was created with TWGSv1 and subsequently died with it. That's not the game I grew up playing, and I have no intention of ever learning it. It's simply not my idea of fun. Or most other players', either, I'm betting.

It seems that at least 500 players enjoyed playing the game the way JP left if or years. v1.03 had the largest player base that Tradewars has ever produced, much larger than v2 can ever produce.

Your idea of fun isnt the voice of the majority, plan and simple!!! Again, your lack of skill limits your view of the game as a whole!! V2 maybe okay for a small casual game where at any give time you have 2 or 3 people just jerking around in a game. It cant handle the stress of tournament play, simple as that!!!

I could give maybe 4 reasons why the community is getting smaller.

1) Halo 4
2) Call of Duty Black Ops 2
3) World of Warcraft
4) Madden

The point is, there are so many options on playing games online that I'm surprised Trade Wars is still around at all.

I also can't believe that there is still a debate between both versions of the game. In my opinion, it is just a matter of personal preference. Simple as that.

I think the following picture best describes this topic.

I believe that's still a bug in 1.03 & v2. But the big game upset in BOTE 2011 was the riding the planet bug that was found and fixed.

Too funny! ROFLMAO! The majority of the players who play today don't come near these forums.

Again your post revels what little you know about the game! The current V2 is just as buggy and again jps nowhere to be found! Dayshavoo anyone?

You don't have a clue what bug they are even talking about. For one, there is no riding the planet bug in v1.03. There is a "prelock" bug which JP said was fixed in v2, but there are 2 much worse bugs in that area now.
The bug they are talking about is a "lock up" bug that boots you to the main screen when you get flooded with messages, and that is ONLY in v2.

As a developer yourself I find it hard to believe you would even go there. 2.x.x is a release, x.2.x is a major and x.x.2 is a minor release. JP himself said he wasn't making any real changes just adding options. Do you have information the rest of the community doesn't?

Undocumented behavior being falling behind enemy fig's on a enemy's photon? Being able to burst a Pwarp, lift, photon, land, pwarp out before a move has completed? Both you and Cruncher are truly showing your naivety in regard's to TW2002 game mechanics.

Check again door version had the ability to have more than one connection at a time but required multiple dial-up connections. I played back then I remember the progression of TW, calling 900 #'s for time on the BBS (Major in my case). Unless of course you actually meant the DOS version, in which case your correct it's not multiplayer. Click here for my ref.

Each to their own, you'll notice I said various reason's including, it wasn't a grandeous statement of absolute fact and nor did I attribute it as a 100% qualifier. I do feel there is a real lack of support and I did leave and no longer play.

I find it humorous you triumph V2 considering you are attempting to do with weapon X exactually what people complain about with TWX. Except in your case your using a even more difficult to understand language... Pot/Kettle

It still amazes me that people will defend an ideal without any real clue to the actual issue at hand. Cruncher thinks I'm talking sysop delays and Pgrid bugs and you think it's a intended effort. JP is aware of the timing issues going back to 2.08 and Singularity, he just has chosen not to make time to correct them.

You both should get job's as politicians, they also blindly argue about irrelevant subject's with little factual information.
