I think the two biggest barriers for any new player or returner are that TWX has such a steep learning curve and SWATH costs money. I'm going to promote my helper as the easy and free way to get people into the game. I'll also promote it as a fun way to learn (or teach) programming. Instead of computing compound interest or something boring like that, students will be able to jump right into game programming with scripts. How cool would it be if I got some teachers on board with whole classrooms full of new TradeWarriors? But you might have to start learning Hindi if you want to keep up on FedComm...

I don't care how you look at it, there are less players today than there was a year ago. Also, at least half the players that are active in Tradewars choose to play v1 instead of v2. That should tell you something right there.

I'm sorry, are we looking at the same numbers?

Servers Installed: 1,659
Active: 96 Active servers have been online in the last 3 days.

Players This Month: 588
Last Month: 702

This Year: 4,464
Last Year: 1,585

Total: 5,895 Player totals are unique players over all servers.

Numbers are only good for v2.xx servers so we have no way of knowing if v1.03 added a significant number to last year or even this year. It might be possible to show a growth/decline trend of the months using the v2.xx data. Player numbers in the summer seem to decline a little anyway. I wouldn't be comfortable stating growth/decline with the small data sample that would currently be available.

I understand. D proposes that there are less players over-all this year and that more players prefer v1.03. The numbers for v2 suggest that there are either more players coming into the game, or more players playing v2. The v2 numbers are contrary to Big D's claim is all I'm saying.

Actually, this is a fantastic idea! I'm trying to learn how to code and I keep feeling like I'm 20 years too late to the party. If you have a helper that will teach kids to code in JavaScript that would be simply amazing!

4000+ "unique" players in TW just this year ???

this seems... I dont even know.

Maybe that number would be correct is the normal players used 100 different names each this year.

btw.. I am not trying to put down version 2.
I like both versions and hope to see continued work on version 2.

Well for one those stats reflect total server installations, which each server could have installed multiple versions and re-installed multiple times for whatever reason. Also the "unique" players are reflected by "unique" IP's. Most players have dynamic IP's that change each time they log into a server, so one player might be counted 100 times within a few months. So figure it out yourself. I've been to a lot of different servers running v2 AND v1, and the majority of these servers had 1 or 2 players online and maybe 4 or 5 active players. UTW seems to be one of the busiest servers, and even Sage has lost a lot of players in the last year. Instead of 30 or 40 online at one time he has 16 or 17 on a regular basis. Tradewars does NOT have more players today than there was a year ago, and I'd be inclined to say that there are less than half playing today than last year.

Been trolling, and I have to agree with BigD. There's no-way those numbers are in any accurate. I wish that they were. I'm just a weekend warrior scripter, I don't expect anyone to take offense when I say this, but, I don't believe that the 'tracking' code involved is without bugs and/or Logic errors. Can't get more PC than that.

btw. few more names for the MIA list:

Jester (can't believe you all forgot about him)
    FORK
    Vale (aka Bananaman)
    Pat
