For the attention of the Owner
John,
This is the second time that Helix has locked a thread solely because he does not seem to like a debate of the effect that reactive attack scripts have on newbies and retreads.
The debate was civilized, polite and on topic (a very important topic, IMO). Locking it was egregious. If this type of moderation continues, I for one am outa here, after almost a dozen years.
Regards
Des Kavanagh.

Re: For the attention of the Owner
We differ slightly, I think it is two people trying to convince the masses they were correct. Yet the masses say your wrong and you refuse to hear it. For some reason you think if you say it enough times it will come true. Sorry that is not going to happen, you have a better chance putting on some ruby red slippers clicking your heals 3 times and wishing TWX go away.
The simple truth is if you find a way to remove TWX from the game there will be something that replaces it. While SWATH is not as fast it can be programmed to do the same things as TWX. But the learning curve for java programming is a little steeper than TWX.
My guess is the thread was locked since it was going no where, one big circle "AGAIN"! We can not change the minority and trust me the majority is not going to budge either. So the thread was a deadend, and I was almost ready to ask when it was going to be locked. Sorry but being hardheaded and Irish will not win you a battle, IMO this war is over.

Not necessarily. Only the people who do have a different opinion than the players here in this forum get shot down for expressing it.

The game has always been constantly changing, and probably always will be. Every change creates complaints, and not just todays complaints...
I hated TWX when it first came out. I guess I still do. I will find a way to work around its agressiveness. I do something that it possibly cant. I think, and reason.

Re: For the attention of the Owner
I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of discussion threads that ended in complete agreement by all parties over the years, and that is not just here.
BTW, you are continuing the debate here instead of discussing the thread topic. I do not have a problem with that, but the moderator has demonstrated capriciousness and might use OT as an excuse to lock this also.
EDIT: This was a reply to t0yman's post.

I don't want to get in an argument over a dead topic. If you want rid of TWX then make it version V3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8....whatever. But v2 was meant to fix known bugs in v1.03... nothing more, nothing less. Open Discussion, if you care to file a complaint as many have been told before send a PM. I am not really concerned if you have a problem or not this one won't last long either.

I am not really concerned if you have a problem or not this one won't last long either. I've been waiting, nearly 2 years now for v4 whatever. Development is going in the direction of Botlink, not to v4. If JP tells me I can create my own toggle in botlink to prevent reactive TWX scripts then fine. I don't think that's the case however. We're not getting any younger here folks. We just want to play an old game from the 1990's the way it was when it was at it's height of popularity.

Des Kavanagh. Im inclined to agree with your position. I feel he is very arbitrary in his decisions to lock threads as evident with boovboo, and your thread.

Re: For the attention of the Owner
I didn't see anything in the boo vs boo thread except players giving each other a hard time in a good natured way (at least I think they were), but it is hard to tell.
Helix has to make fairly difficult judgement calls on some threads because they become the neverending story type, and just rehash the same points over and over. No one will ever agree that the thread that they have an emotional/logical interest in should ever be locked. Helix has locked some before I would have, and he has waited a bit longer than I would have on others. Overall, Helix seems to do a good job in my opinion - that doesn't say that he never irritates me, but then I sometimes irritate him too in the threads.

Bandwidth has not been an issue for more than a decade, and even if threads drift, again who cares - read Usenet, the drift is mebbe after 15/20 posts, often quite off the rails. The Mods should confine themselves to ensuring civility (that includes such as no bad language, racism, etc.). Nobody is forced to read a thread that has become repetitive in the view of a single individual. EDIT: This forum header is : Talk about anything on your mind, TradeWars or not.

Actually you make a very good point on that, and one I really didn't think about. The neverending story type threads can be ignored, but it is in most of us to just have to respond. If we don't respond, then the thread dies.

Isn't the point of this board to have a place wher people can discuss tradewars, and it's proxy program's? If the thread does not degenerate into a mud-slinging war, why should they ever be locked? Kav is 100% right with this one. That thread shoudl not have been locked, and it was some over zealous moderation that made it happen, and this type of moderation should not have a home here.

Des Kavanagh. I could care less about reactive attack scripts and the discussion concerning it. I do care when every thread gets turned in to Crunchers not so secret agenda. This is twice now (funny you should mention 2 times) that Cruncher has continued to argue just for the sake of arguing after the owner made himself clear about the issue and why. You want the threads kept open for discussion? Tell Cruncher to stop hijacking the dang thing. H PS: Oh and all of this could have been said in PM, saving some feelings and perhaps not causing unneeded animosity but you don't roll that way.

This thread and the one that you locked have nothing to do with Cruncher. I started both and she did not hijack either, nor am I a puppet or agent provocateur. I am genuinely concerned about the difficulties that newbies and retreads face and REALLY alarmed that threads in this forum can be effectively shut down by a moderator who does not agree with the content of a post. I do not know how to conduct a debate with the community by PM, please advise. Kavanagh.

Kavanagh. The PM part is for your complaints. (dont be dense) Thats why we have a report button AND a checkbox to request being notified of the result of the report. Having you publicly bash the moderator, me, for doing my job just seems petty and petulant. I put a lot of effort into the discussion you created this thread for, do you think I enjoy wasting all that time and effort just to have it continually sent sideways? I dont agree with this topic and it ain't locked. And it won't be until the discussion goes sideways or the trolls start posting. If you want to keep your threads open, then appeal to the people to stay on topic. Once they go sideways and drift away from the topic they are subject to being locked. I could just delete the offending post but I save that for what I consider extreme troll activity H
