Ok. I think I'm done..... again.
I have been dreaming about this game. I have been thinking about this game and I have been spending hours and hours sitting in a chair staring at a monitor playing this game ... again. I had forgotten what made me give it up so many years ago. That was pretty easy to fix. All I had to do was read Cabal's site again. Even though that site came about after my original time with this game, all the reasons he dropped out pretty much mirror my own even though I never attained anywhere near the level of play he did. I will leave the TWGS Server up for a while. If someone wants to be the admin, send me an email ( admin@twarbase.com) and I'll give you some access to create games. Other than that, I am disposing of the twarbase.com website (again) and getting my fat Butt back out of this chair and back into my life. See ya MuscleHead aka Master Blaster, The Evil Commander!!! Sorry JP.

Re: Ok. I think I'm done..... again.
I know what you are saying, and it is the same reason I now only play one game every few months, and I won't get into the 2-5 games at a time that I once did. The last game I was in, I didn't even finish because something else became more interesting (new computer and a decision to rewrite my primary scripts and then only late at night).
TW is a fun (and addictive) game to play as are most games, but we have to be careful or our real lives can suffer.
I hope you come back to play a game now and then, or just drop in the forums.

I'm leaving the server up for now. Exarchon has agreed to step in and manage it as an admin. I will cruise through every once in a while but will probably never play another game. the last time I quit, I was away for more than ten years. You only need look at my original posts here to see that.
Good luck everyone. i do wish this game well and hope it finds a path that will take it into the future for years to come.

Re: Ok. I think I'm done..... again.
I remember reading the page on Cabal where he talks about wanting to write a red bot to go with his blue bot, and then realizing what that would do to the game if he ever released it. It would become a game of bots, completely without human interaction from the first turn to the last #SD#. Realizing this is what made him quit.
But I kind of think he should have done that. Someone should release a comprehensive bot that would completely dominate the game. Demolish the manual players. Demolish the scripters. Demolish everyone. Completely ruin the game.
Because that's the only thing that's going to make some people understand the necessity of curtailing certain kinds of scripting.

Good luck man. We'll keep it at 'See ya 'round' rather than a full out 'Goodbye.' As abrupt an exit as ten years ago...
I was inspired by Traitor's ideas for scripts, and his letter to the community in which he describes the fabled 'Red Bot' was a 'light-bulb' moment for me. I'll release it into the wild on my retirement to be sure....

Good luck everyone. i do wish this game well and hope it finds a path that will take it into the future for years to come. Was nice bumping into you again MB! I remember once upon a time you had a live video feed of a particularly treacherous piece of highway near Denver on your web site. TW started down that highway, but I feel we're finally getting the guardrails up now, and those little ripples cut in the cement to keep you from wondering off onto the shoulder. "The Humans are conquering the Bots!" Hehe.... Even if you take a break from playing again, please do pop in to lighten the mood with your sense of humor. You know how intense we all can get over this silly little text game!

There's something about this game, that keeps nagging us from inside. When we think we've put it asside, it keeps growing till we simply have to check in and see what the heck is going on. Have a plesant rest, and see you when you return.

Sorry JP. Maybe just learn moderation. Time management? Limit yourself to 1 hr a day of tradewars. I think your a valuable asset to tw and I personally think you should stay around... if not - Hope your back soon

Just a question: Can all this scripting take place when there are limits to online time? In a game where you can only play 1 hr a day, would that prevent a bot running around killing everything? This would solve 2 problems - prevent addictive personalities from becoming obssessive about game and prevent bots... ???????????????

There are ways to limit bot use and also make games less all-consuming, but for some reason, people don't seem to play those games as much.

The game is great. As long as the tools exist to create a well balanced game, sysops need to learn how to tailor games that fit their player base. All these problems everyone mention dont seem to exist at Jace's Night Club. I dont get hate mail from players. I dont get complaints. Its just so peaceful. I dont really understand all those sysops who have all these wierd problems. I dont get it... lol Example: game C at jace's night club is set up with limited time. low amount of turns per day/ plus turn banking. Global rule: No online "sitting" at Jace's Night Club. There are 6 players. All playing. No problems being reported. Check that game out to see how a sysop prevents bots dominating.

Hum.... just thinking outloud
