 RP's V2 Server?

Why are players not playing Version 2 of TWGS?

I have both running, address is in my signature, yet I have exactly 0 players on the V2 server, and players using the V1 games. I'm really courious why people are shying away from the V2 server.

Is it that peeps didn't know I was running a V2?
they didn't notice the different ports?
they don't have scripts that run on V2 but they do for V1?

I'm really courious and this isn't about bashing V2.

Most all scripts work on V1 & V2, guess it would depend on your players. It might be the ones that are playing are the ones holding out on V2? I guess login the games and ask the players why, then again they might not know your running both.

Runaway your funninng a board fast as hell on v1 and v2. I have heard through the grape vine that most people aren't playing v2 because it's still in the works. As far you running v1 I wouldn't know why anyone is playing. I think your board is fast as hill quite FASTER than UTW... I suggest you try and get a icq list of all the players and mass icq message them. As you can tell on this website only a small amount of players and twgs sysops are posting on here. Hope this helps...

Thanks Comet for the fine things you said. I have a rather large ICQ list, but hate blast messages from it, and won't do that to the members on my list.

Crosby seemed to experience some intermittent lag, of the extreme variety, and I'm curious if anybody else has experienced the same.

As far as people not playing because it's "in the works" I have to disagree. Why wait until it's final to find any bugs (not saying there are any) rather than find them when JP is actually working on the code? I'd rather have them fixed, and that's why I'm running the server. I'm aware there's a small group who have sworn it off forever, and that's their choice, but the rest of the community should be excited to see the game progressing.

So once again,.. RP's V2 (2.11) server is up and running at telnet://runawayproton.dyndns.org:223 let's give it (server and code both) a proper shake down.

The vast majority of of people are playing on TWGS v2, but among the crowd you're targeting, I think there is a negative attitude about this version. Nothing I can do about that. When I put TWGS v1 out, nobody played it because the HVS and door versions were preferred. You just weather it and keep working. You can't force anyone to adopt.

I think, ultimately, if I achieve my goal so that anything you can do in TWGS v1, you can do in TWGS v2 and then some, then gameops will adopt it and players will follow. If there are legitimate reasons why people prefer v1, I'd like to know it so I can adapt.

Not really targeting any particular players. I just want to promote play on the V2 Server. Guess I could do that best by not offering a choice and putting up the V2 only.
Guess I'll finish getting all the stuff done on the computer, and the tricky part will be getting the website to update from V2 stuff.

As long as I have a solid group of players and gameops putting the new version through its paces, that's enough to work out the most serious kinks. It really isn't an issue that some players will stick with the older version. This has always happened with new versions.

There are some really good players and ops helping me with testing right now, probably better than at any time in the past. If you want to be part of that, that's awesome. But if you can't do that and keep your players happy, I understand.

Let me know if I can help with that. Your host has MySQL, so I could help you see if we can push it up as data. Then I think it is pretty easy to display that data with PHP.
