Sure, post the list you have and lets do that.

Sorry, if there are bugs in the game and you use them, thats cheating, doesnt matter what version of the twgs you are using.

I agree with you Helix. The really weird part is that these people claim that they can't tell the difference. Quite frankly I don't think they are that stupid! They know they are cheating, and just won't admit it.

One person's bug can be another person's new feature. The only person that can verify a bug is the game's author, and from what I have seen, almost everything we currently do would be considered bug use because the game wasn't intended to be played that way.

Why would a player advertise something that he or she has discovered that gives them an advantage only to see it removed from the game? We have given out so many of our tactics only to see those tactics become the target of how they can be prevented.

Unless I come across something that prevents another player from playing, then I have to weigh what that "bug" means to the game.

If you don't want the general public to know about the bug, then you should report it directly to JP by PM or email. To withold this information causes the game to become unbalanced. You don't have the right to call it a "Feature", as you aren't the designer of the game. Some "tactics" are being "targeted" because the break gameplay in the way the designer intended the game to be played.

I agree with Helix, show us your list of "bugs".

1) If the changes have done nothing but required you to edit a couple of scripts, but your scripts still accomplish what they've accomplished in the past, then that's NOT a bug, but an update.

2) If an unreported bug causes the CPU to spike - then we have a problem. That's the sort of thing JP has been working on resolving.

3) If an unreported bug causes the game to crash - then we have a problem. Those were a lot of the early bugs that got squashed in the 90's. Remember when capping ships in fed space was allowed and crashed the game?

4) If an unreported bug oh say increases your citadel bank 10 fold daily (hypothetical) - then that's a bug that gives the user an unfair game advantage, and we have a problem. These are the toughest bugs to uncover and fix, players that have discovered these types of bugs don't give them up.

So, which category does the 20 or so Kraaken discovered unreported bugs fall in to?

You all have been playing a static game for 8 years and now we're shaking it up again. For the 6 years that I played this game back in the 90's this game was constantly changing and improving. When HVS stopped we begged Gary to continue development and he found JP.

I'm with T0yman, a large part of the fun of this game has been the constant evolution. Bugs that fall in categories 2 - 4 need to be reported to be fixed. "Bugs" that fall into category 1 are not bugs, just updates.

Now, the thing that makes this so interesting is that once one thing is fixed, something seemingly totally unrelated can break. That's the nature of this beast. That's why we need players on the Beta server to keep an eye out for anything unusual.

2.11 runs fine on Micro's server, but locks up on mine... why? We don't know, as soon as I hear from JP we'll try to resolve that.

Considering that the script in question may have been using a bug to begin with, this might not quite be true. It seems to me that they are finding new bugs to work around the old bugs JP fixed so they can continue to use the same dishonorable tactics JP is trying to discorage.

That's true, but if we're talking about the setting to hide who's logged in, I don't think their work-around was a bug, just a cleaver script to hail every player to see who was online and who wasn't.

Back-handed to what the gameop was trying to accomplish, you bet ya it was. But it was no more a bug than someone using a colo script vs. someone manually colonizing.

These guys know the game well, and do a lot more "outside of the box" thinking than the average player who just enjoys playing the game.

True, that is not a bug, but it is very underhanded. They have taken a new feature and used it to thier advantage, when the intent of this feature was to make things more balanced.

In addition to Hailing, you can tell if a player is online by watching the CLV.

You don't have to mention it here for everyone but why not send a PM to JP and let him decide if it is a bug or not?
EDIT: I replied before reading the entire thread....so yea I agree with Micro on this one.

Yeah, I agree. It was not in the spirit of the type of game you were trying to run. But, some things just cannot be controlled.

Case in point - riding planet shields. Many would concider that a bug, and it's been debated here. But, there is no way to prevent it without changing the game. So here is an example of a bug that's been squashed simply by putting it into the public domain. There are a lot of tactics posted on Cabal that some would concider underhanded.

Actually, the new scheduling feature can force all players out of the game. I set this so that no-one would be in-game during extern, but it also prevents anyone from riding shields for more than 24 hours. Of coarse, they can jump right back on the shields after they are let back into the game.

I do think the game should be changed to fix this.

Turning off interactive sub-prompts fixes a lot of things, but that still needs work. With ISP's off messages are aborted as well. Say you're running a PPT'ing script and somone enters your sector, you don't see them enter, you don't see them power up and before you can blink a second time you're at the menu prompt, they got your pod too!

I wish we could do away with "abort display" all together.

Interactive sub prompts and abort display are two completely different things.
ISP OFF = You don't see messages while you are at sub prompts
Abort display = You don't see certain prompts either by using spaces or setting the CN9 key to "all keys"

Underhanded ? I thought it was brilliant...I wasnt sure the purpose of turning off "Who's Online"... its a benefit for all player...but im not going to question the settings... Balnaced not sure how its balanced ?

But why are we beating Kraaken down ? These guys are helpful in most games i play against them...

You think this is brilliant when it is the tactic they used to determine you were offline before they attacked your base?
I turned the new feature on, to prevent that. It didn't work, so I won't turn it on next time.

Kraaken is claiming that they found bugs, but they refuse to report these bugs to JP so that he can fix them.

Thats not the way to deal with an issue like this. Report that when you turn off "Who's Online" then sending a private hail to a player who is online, sends the message to the player and not to the mail system. The fix for this is to have all private hails go to the mail system while this setting is on.
