The game provides a longer planet lock than a ship twarp lock for a reason. Plock is also done manually in some instances, but I won't say when it is effective to do it manually. You will not hit a lot of gridders unless you are running a plock in an unlim game. What about sitting on a port waiting for someone to hit the fighter in the sector? They hit the fighter, you drop from the port and attack. That's exactly why I have figlock off and planets on a 5s delay. That's got to be my biggest pet peeve about today's game - using planets as ships! And that's NOT crippling the game, that's restoring it. - Turns games anyhow. In your opinion and for the games you like that might be restoring it. For the games I like, it is crippling it. Good thing is you can play it as you wish, and I can still play the way I wish - maybe, as that is yet to be seen. The settings are there for different types of play, but it will be a while before I am comfortable that Ops won't totally mess the game up as they have with TWA editing. [Edit]I should say "...some Ops won't totally mess the game up...", because some are good at edits.[/edit]

Re: Just to let ya know......
I find it interesting that more then one person finds this to be a new tactic and that JP finds this to be an advanced tactic. I was using colo calc back around 1999 or 2000. Back when people were not so smart about there colonizing. Now days it isn't really worth the time. And yes I do believe i wrote the first script to do it but i never published it so i'll let vid have the credits on that one.

So how has everyone been. I haven't played a game december. Sadly the last game I played in was on ice9 vs. a team lead by space ghost .

I can see 3 distinct game types that need pre-sets: Unlim Truce Classic So gameops skilled in these types need to start thinking about what are the settings you'll choose 99% of the time for each of these game types?

Some things like JP mentioned earlier that were bugs are actually pretty darn useful and will stay in the game. An example of that being moving a planet other people are on will dump them to sector. That was the original programming, and it broke. So should they fix it as WAI, or keep it "bugged"? While you and I occupy a digital world, not everything out there can be reduced to 1's and 0's. Sub-prompts are intended to be used for a short period of time, not as a place you can sit and hide for an extended period of time. This wasn't an issue when the game was single player at a time, and it just wasn't changed when the game went multi-player.

I think Sub-Zero would make a good pre-set template for Unlim.

Why would sub-prompts be intended for a short period of time exclusive to other uses? ISP can be turned off, and that is when I heard from the players on my server - they wanted it on. We probably do a lot of things that the game' orginal designer couldn't have anticipated.

I see the new settings as more: Retro (Truce / Open) Modern (Truce / Open) ... and now is where it gets interesting because of the settings that will be used, because I doubt we will see common settings across the servers. A B.O.T.E. would be interesting to see in regard to the discussions.

I'm thinking we start with the default settings, throw this in a spreadsheet then start colums for the different type pre-sets we want to give new sysops at least a basic "shell" to start designing their own games. Now maybe these pre-sets will be hardwired at a certain setting to keep games somewhat balanced. So modern games will always have ISP's on, fig lock on.. hardwired. Things you don't want newbie sysops to screw up. Truce games will always have the truce feature on - when JP gets that done. Something along those lines. Still let them experiment with gold ships and planets and such. This does not guarantee all new games will be balanced, but they will have a solid starting point to start with. Does this make sense? And yes B.O.T.E will be interesting, that has traditionally always been a classic edit, correct? I guess it will be up to the host to decide just how "classic" they want to make the B.O.T.E. this year. Who won last year?

Does this make sense? Sure doesn't make sense. I can see if I select truce it has common defaults but I would never want anything "hardwired". Options are fine, but hard coding something IMO is a mistake. Sysop's learn same as players, by making mistakes.

Lollipops on the 10 year thing.
What's funny is I haven't made a list anywhere for anything, lol. I'm perfectly happy being the guy in the shadows that scares everybody.
