when I click on the "Smack" link.. I am personally choosing to enter that part of the forum and choosing to read what is there.. and choosing to type something on my keyboard.

Ive never felt the overwhelming presence of a superior being forcing me to click that link and read whats there.

Its a choice.
you either make that choice to enter & read or you don't.
seems fairly simple to me..

but I may be missing something.

I do see a common theme here but I cant see anything to do with why there should be a smack forum or even a smack thread.

I voted yes, not because I want to talk smack, but because I'm tired of reading smack in the regular forums. If we had a smack forum, I would enjoy ignoring it's existance.

Well its been a few days and the vote is 14 to 10, I think we have had feedback from both sides and I am excitied and hopeful to see what JP thinks. I appreciate all of your feedback guys and hope to be talking crazy smack about how I just torped you soon!! laff, I mean how I was carrying torps gridding and hit an offensive fig, darn torps!

If you have a problem with anypost, all you have to do is
hit the little (!) and report the thread. If you have a problem
with a moderator, PM mobby about it. Isn't this a cleaner
way of dealing with a problem than airing dirty laundry in a
public forum??

just agree with JP that we shouldn't need a Smack forum.
Why can't we just be civil in our discussions?

part of the game has always been smack talk..

plain and simple.

some of he greats have been known for just that.. smack.

there have been arguments and Awards of who smacks the best Smack.

its been fun.
there is a line that can be crossed.
there Should be an area, here.

everyone wonders and asks Why has the game changed and Why are so many leaving.

there is no simple answer.. its a combination of many little things.
and one of the little things is something like this discussion of smack talk.

if this were 10-15 years ago.. and a sysop were to say there will be no In Game smack talk on my server...

what would happen??

would a tourny be played there?
would anyone (that was worth 5cents) at that point in time play there??

smack is and forever will be part of this game.
trying to take it away is just another reason why you're going to see less and less players around.

yes yes.. forum smack may be ever so slightly different than in game smack.

but its a link that is needed from game to game to game
it sparks interest in new games
it creates rivalries and the want to bring 'my corp' and roll on someone

back in the day it made/created/drived new life into TW

can it sometimes cross the line? yes
can that be controlled? yes.

Those were all reasonable points. My question is, why, if smack is so important to TW players noone has jumped in to fill the gap? The Software is free, DynDNS and services like it mean no server costs per say. Why is it so important that it be hosted here?

if the community were not so small this would probably not be a question.

there have been several 'forums' and most players at one point in time migrated back and forth.

Im just saying that this would be a totally different argument 15 years ago.

things change I guess.

and I really dont think TW has changed for the worse..

just we have lost so many great players, sysops and contributors like a continually dripping faucet that it has made the game seem less important

people get mad and run off over petty arguments.

its sad.

will I leave because of a lack of a smack forum?? heh. no. Ive been around TW since the late 80's.. I dont see myself leaving anytime soon.

although I do think smack is an added incentive for the game.. especially at a time when its lacking, something, more than ever.

do I want the degrading type of smack that goes too far and hurts feeling?? of course not. I really dont think anyone does.

I just want a spot for some competitive banter that helps keep the game Live. (that is slightly more than seems to be currently allowed in the forums at this point in time)

I think that sort of banter is still permissible here in open discussions, as long as it's something you can say in front of your grandmother.

This is a war game after all, and part of war games is the smack or head games we play with one another as well.

Just tonight Farley got excited thinking I was riding his shields, he may think twice now about turning his cannons on. I wasn't riding, he didn't do a CLV to see I was in a Colt buying down. heh..

Probably either a Master Blaster or Micro Blaster turn game.



I'm sorry but the only position heard so far favoring a
smack forum is the 'We need a place to move smack.'
There could be little kids browsing through the forum
looking for answers. The info shouldn't be hidden in
a pile of poo, don't you agree?
