Ender posted a very good thread topic on why we lose players, and that made me wonder why do people play a text based game. So, why do you play TW - what is it you enjoy?

My main reason is scripting and the challenge of writing something to take out another player, gain data, or provide something useful to other players and/or sysOps.

I enjoyed the challenge of unlims and the speed at which they are played.

I won't get into a debate on unlims vs turns as that isn't the point of this thread, but rather why do you play and what do you enjoy about the game. It also isn't about anything that you do not enjoy about the game or how a tactic makes your game less enjoyable (that, most of us will figure out based on what you enjoy).

Please keep the replies on the positives of the game...

I love that this is a "thinking" game. I love the strategy and the totally unpredictable way people play.

I love coming up with the most turn efficient method to accomplish a task.

I choose to play this to relax in the evenings rather that sitting in front of the TV. I've played with some who do both at the same time, cracks me up.

I love to watch the credits build in the citadel bank and earn interest. Can't always do this when you are using what you make for offense and defense as fast as you can make it.

It's also exciting when you do execute an invasion successfully. Timing and coordination with others at the keys is a hoot! Most often things do go not as planned, and you quickly think of the best way out of a bad situation.

And sometimes you're just thankful for the #SD# to get a night off.

I love this game because just when I think I have it figured out... I see some person I thought was an easy kill do the totally unexpected! I love to know that it doesn’t matter if you are playing with a corp. full of brand new players, that with patience and command you can turn the biggest team of noobs into a mighty force to be reckoned with.

I love to know I can pull out notepad and program any script for TWX I want, the only limitation? My imagination...

I love to log in 14 days after a game has started and a team is snoozing thinking that have it wrapped up only to pounce and destroy every last asset.

LOL, I have played with Cruncher. You can actually feel the Glee when she achieves the Billion credit mark in a game. It's almost sadistic in a way.

I play because I can. I like the idea that I have played this game nearly since it's inception and have gotten to see first hand it's development and changes over time. I also like the interaction over the net with other people, not just with this game but with many other projects that I 'waste' my time on. I own more than 40 domain names, many of which I have developed into some really odd stuff. Twarbase will be another such 'development' It will take me a year or more to get it functional and like all my other 'projects', it will never really be complete.

In short? just for the fun of it.

Tw is an addiction, one that is very very hard to kick. Its a love hate relationship really. Its meeting new people that have a common interest, its "thinking" not just clicking. Then there is the late nights/early morning and a host of other things. I started some where around the early 90's on metropolis BBS and have played off and on since. I think ill be making a come back this winter if life slows down for a few.
