It is interesting to see the spellings used for words in the different countries.

I agree. I lived in the US for 20 years. It surprised me to learn that the American spelling of some words is the original English - particularly words ending in "or" in the US, corresponding to "our" in most of the rest of the native English speaking world - color/colour etc. Seems the addition of the "u" was an affectation from French on the part of the upper class in England, when French became fashionable, after the original North American colonies had been settled.

Arrant nonsense on the part of the English.

Same thought I had, but I looked it up - who says that the forums aren't educational?...

Definition of ARRANT
: being notoriously without moderation : extreme <we are arrant knaves, all; believe none of us — Shakespeare>
— ar·rant·ly adverb
Examples of ARRANT
<that statement is complete and arrant nonsense>
Origin of ARRANT
alteration of errant
First Known Use: 14th century

note to self - check really old dictionaries first before busting on spelling.

lol, yeah it is a bit out of the ordinary for us, but then the Irish and English really don't know how to spell. Color is spelled colour for instance I believe... think it is too many pints, or maybe it is we that haven't had enough. ;) It's all good, unless you are the poor soul trying to learn English as a second language.

I was waiting for someone to say that:

1.
downright; thorough; unmitigated; notorious: an arrant fool.
2.
wandering; errant.

Still waiting to hear how putting on the fedora turned out, and of course, the 'interesting source code...' ...obviously a reference to one of MY scripts

There's that. But you fellas have been ossified since before English was spoken or written there ;)

Aargh! Were it not that we left all four of our grown children behind when we returned to Ireland, all of whom are convinced that they are Yanks, I'd try to come up with a disparaging comment about Americans in response!

Doubt if I could. Wife and I have very fond memories of the United States, lived there half of our adult lives.
