What do you think about all this talk about "Going to the Cloud"?

I don't have a smart phone or ipad, but I understand all those "aps" are nothing more than links to the software on the web?

I prefer my productivity software right here on my computer thank you! My son thinks some of the smaller hostile countries that don't have access to nukes are working on EM bombs.

I still run WinXP on my productivity machines, I have Vista on a laptop and Win7 on a machine I keep off the web. That one has the most CPU's and I use it for creating training videos.

I'm of the mindset - if it ain't broke, don't fix it! I've never been an early adapter of technology.

Most of "The Cloud" is just existing technologies like remote desktop and hosted servers, etc... It's a broad term than includes anything and everything hosted on the web. There are different types of could apps. Some run locally and store data on the web, others run completely on the web, and anything in-between.

Microsoft just released Office 365. It includes Office 2010 Web Apps, which run entirely in your browser, and it will open documents in your local Office 2010 applications if you have them installed on the local machine. It also includes Exchange server, SharePoint and Lync. Google is also releasing similar products as well as hundreds of other competitors. You can even eliminate all your local servers if you are willing to trust your data to someone else's care.

Some TWGS servers are running on hosted Virtual Machines, which is also a cloud service!

Yeah, don't let it scare you. Cloud is just a buzz-word. This is a trend that's been happening for a long time now. I think it'll only effect you to the extent that you'll let it. It's like cell phones. They've taken over the world, but I don't have one. And my mom-in-law still doesn't have the Internets.

What would a marketing department be, without fancy buzz words and flavor of the month sales campaigns?

EM bombs....im sure they are already in the hands of certain hostile contries. The one thing on the net and with technology as we all have seen is hackers. I remember there was a group questioned by congress about cyber attacks years ago...and they made a great point, they could "shut it down" in a sense. Who care about EM bombs....these countries already have hackers for hire doing dirty work and stealing secrets. EM attack would humble us actually :)

That's something I've been wanting to make a game about for a long time now, cyberwarfare. I have a ton of design on it, and I read everything I can find on the subject as research for the game. I'd love to add it to the game server as an alternative to TW.

And it might give bot/script authors something better to do than noob-smacking in TW ;)

Thanks for the reference, LoneStar. I'll add it to my list. I'm sure I can track it down if/when I have a chance to look into it.

The next time I have an opening to work on my own project like I've had for the last 6 months here, I'll definitely consider doing this game, and work with this community on it. I think it would appeal to the core TW crowd.

Correction: MoD stands for Masters of Deception.

Just saw in the news that the Anonymous hacker group was busted up in a major sting operation. Wow.
