 Nominate a new site-wide moderator
Ok, I guess it's time to start looking for someone to take over the role of site moderator recently vacated with the unfortunate death of Space Ghost.
If anyone is interested in taking on this role, pm me. If anyone thinks someone else might be particularly well suited for the role, post the name here. Maybe they'll succumb to the pressure.
There haven't been that many head moderators in this forum over the years. Gypsy, Eleq, Vulcan, Space Ghost and Thrawn. Am I missing anyone? Did Rave take on that role for awhile?
I've been able to spend a good deal of time in here lately, but it won't always be the case. This is the community's forum. I need someone from the community to babysit it for me.

Sing already said he's not interested... Who can blame him.

Re: Nominate a new site-wide moderator
Good question.
Basically, managing the moderators of the various areas of the site, replacing them if needed, handling disputes between them and between members and moderators. If the moderator chooses, he/she can allow various forum moderators to ban users, or he/she can ask them to make recommendations and do the banning him/herself. If there is a dispute between a moderator and the site moderator, or a member and the site moderator, he/she would bring that to me. Basically, the site moderator shields me from the day-to-day babysitting of the forum so I can focus on the game with any TW time I have available.
It has always been my goal to give the site moderator a lot of freedom and to avoid micromanaging the forum.

Re: Nominate a new site-wide moderator
Complaints between moderators and users? That's going to get messy. I always had the policy of "unless they're setting up concentration camps, STFU" or otherwise we wouldn't have any moderators left.
Also, as described, you're not looking for an admin. The admin handles forum layout, user activation and password issues, groups, permissions, etc. Basically you're just looking to add a new global moderator, then?

Well, any complaints have to be looked at. It's the moderators decision if there's any grounds for action. Right, I've been happy to handle the admin stuff (well, share the load) for awhile now, and will try to continue to do so. If I can't, I'll make sure someone is here to handle that. It's really the global moderator role that needs to be filled.

I'd be happy to keep doing that when you're not able to. I just don't have access to the code side of things, so there's a big limit to what I can do. The global moderator thing is a big question mark tho, it will be tricky finding someone with the temperament for it.
