I'm not sure that some of you understood what Sing said. Finding bases quickly has nothing to do with the port status, but the area of the universe the up'd port was in. Players will take the universe, divide it up into portions and diasect it according the the mostly likely place someone will build a base. Therefor you don't waste turns looking in certain areas where they probably aren't located. This has nothing to do with CIM hunting.

About the commish thing. Why make someone wait 24 hours to get a commish while you can become red instantly. Are you going to make the reds wait 24 hours before they can rob/steal?

I am only talking about the ones that come in and CBY for no reason other than to allow a buddy to get commissioned. Flipping Red for a corporate member or others is just part of the game.

Minor annoyance at best. I don't see a need to change this. There is a cost involved, the blue still needs to come up with the cash to post bounty.

Well in that case, there are better ways around it. For instance, add something that make you wait until day 2 to CBY, OR add something where if you CBY under a 1000 experience that your alignment doesn't change. Waiting 24 hours for anyone to get a commish will be highly penalizing anyone playing blue.

I like this idea. This is essentially a dupe cheat, even though there are times when someone (like me) just goes in and leaves an abandoned ship or whatever. I would like to use some kind of measure of how active a player has been. If an account is created just to cby, nobody should benefit from that. But if an account is used a reasonable amount, then the existing penalty could be applied in a cby.

Is there any reason that the resulting alignment from CBYing can't be changed to 0 instead of -10? I don't see it having a major impact on game play. The -10 alignment penalty only affects solo players since anyone on a corp can have a team member drop a ship at terra for them after extern and they can macro back in safely.

I assume at some point this penalty was put in there to address some abuse of CBY, but that goes back beyond my time with the game...

It's there to prevent someone from CBYing and then coming back into the game and just sitting in fed. Make sure the penalty is always an option, as it's pretty important in some games. Use of the negative alignment for going blue is a nice bonus to have occasionally, but it's only a technicality. There are a dozen other ways to go red.
