Just kidding, those are all cheats or down-low dirty playing. Players of skill don't rely on those tactics to play and win, we play more sportsmanly (or womanly) as the case may be.

More sportsmanly(womanly).... HAHAha who do think your kidding, you use every unscrupulous tactic mentioned above and even some not mentioned. 0 points -4,500,000 align...

And exactly how is the sysop going to prevent any of these things from happening when TWGS clearly allows all of these things?

He can't. As hard as I've been trying to figure something out, open public games are a thing of the past, for all but the most aggressive players.

It's like JP said, we just have to get like minded people together and have one of the larger servers host a private, closed game.

Ice-9 game I has closed, more will follow.

The game will flourish, behind closed doors...

Well, you'd better talk to the game designer then. JP has publicly stated that megarob is not a bug, and that sub space crawling is fair game play and won't be changed.

Mega-rob WAS a bug. It was caused by an overflow of a signed integer in the HVS version of the game. JP turned it into a "Feature" because of popular demand. He also made it a game option so that GameOps can turn it off.

...and we didn't need a GameOp staring over our shoulders to make sure we weren't cheating by using this bug. We just didn't use it. Period.

No. You are wrong. It's NOT a toggle you can turn on and off. It is part of the game when banged in MBBS mode. Although it may have been a bug originally, JP says it's not a bug, and will be left as a legitimate part of the game today. So if you don't want megarob, you can't bang a MBBS game.

Actually, MBBS is an option, mega-rob is not. MBBS mode affects other settings as well. But yes, it was a bug. Now it's not.

LOL, obviously enough people DID use it or it wouldn't have been popular enough to make into a feature.

ROTFLOL, then you agree that all of this is perfectly legit. The game designer created the game, we play the game according to what the server (aka the game designer) allows. Therefore, not cheating.

No, Gary Martin failed to accieve his goals in this area.

No, what's funny is that people know they are cheating and they always find some way to justify it.

Not according to a post JP made earlier today in this same thread.

Gary Martin isn't the designer anymore. If you think that JP has failed to achieve his goals for the new beta, you should let him know.

Back to my "Clearly Flawed" chess analagy:

1. I don't play "Chest Master 9000" against my computer. Becase I would never have a chance playing against a machine.
2. I don't play chess on Yahoo, because most the players are better than me and I don't learn anything except how to loose quickly.
3. I play at a local chess club, where players are matched according to their skill levels. It's a lot of fun, and I usually learn something from the people I am playing with.

Anyone who would like to GuestOp on my server, just drop me a PM or Email, and I will set you up with a private game you can invite your friends to.

I'm glad you phrased it that way. Let me run some questions by you.

Do you consider any of these actions cheating in a game?

Blowing stardock or class 0's
Blockading fed space or Class 0 ports
Running Amtrak
Riding planet shields (to save turns or to find someones base)
Using megarob
Using bots
Using AFK torp/kill/defense scripts
Bringing in a new corp member to keep from losing
Backstabbing your own corp
Duping
Using CLV login in screen in time limit games to monitor changes.
Subspace crawling
Bubble hugging

If you said YES OR NO to any of these, you'll find that at least 1 person will disagree with you about whether it is cheating and if it isn't.

They were HVS players. "We" played GM's TradeWars.

...and yes the arguments were very heated between the two groups.

You are quite right, and we would need a seperate thread for each of them.

From my point of view, I would have to say YES all of those are cheating with the exception of Megarob in an MBBS enabled game.

That's the problem, each person has a different point of view. But it's the sysop that pays the bills for their server. So regardless of what other people think is or is not cheating, it's the sysop that gets to determine that. What we think is irrelevant, if the sysop says it's not cheating then it isn't... if they say it is, then it is. If you don't like the sysop's rules, don't play on that server.

If you want to ban any or all of those things on your server, you are free to do so. But just because you think they're cheating doesn't mean people can't do it on other servers, and doesn't make those players cheaters. They're just playing by a different set of rules, the one set forward by the sysop.
