Bottom line, the moderator decides. Don't like it, vote with your feet....

H Bottom line. The moderator decides what threads to lock. The admin decide if there will be a smack forum or not. In this case you are neither moderator of this forum or admin, so there's no need for you to tell the members here to take a walk.

H "Voting with your feet".. in a online forum has to be one of the dumbest things ive ever read. that term should be banned from use. Bottom line. The members decide. It would be a Great forum without any posts now wouldnt it. now jump off your high horse so you can pull that stick out.

 Re: Threads being locked
Will all due respect Thrawn, (and I do think you rock as a moderator)
It kind of sounds like, to me, that what you are saying is we cant debate here, and that we have to take debates to an area that is no longer available. Seems like that would encourage people to smack here. One simply needs to post something that could, in any way, be conceived as controversial and many would be compelled to respond. Giving the users a place to vent would keep the crap out of the GF, as well as give the mods a place to move incorrectly posted topics..
Basically, from what i am reading, I could say that Obama should be crowned king of the world (example, not my real opinion) and anyone that post a disagreement would get the thread locked because we cant argue here.
Even though I will probably stay away from it, it sounds like the admin team needs to get off there heiney and make a decision on the smack forum.

If you want to debate, there is nothing wrong with civil debate/discussion. When people enter a thread with bypassing the swear filters, or clearly smack talk then it would get moved to Smack. Since I have no Smack area to move it to, all I can do is lock it. Not at all. If you posted this discussion and people said you're off your rocker and proceeded to debate/discuss in a civil manner, I would most likely leave it. If a person came in and called you a *^&%$# (you know what I mean) then it would get either moved or locked. Same thing I have always done since the start of my moderation tour here. And it is nothing outside of what both SG AND John have outlined as my responsibilities here.

 Re: Threads being locked
No one is blaming you Thrawn. You are doing fine with what you have to work with. It's just too bad that some people feel the need to chime in to civil conversations with snide remarks. Debates and difference of opinions are going to happen, snide remarks and posts that belittle other members shouldn't happen here and I agree with you on that point.

I've always tried to remain civil in the open/general discussion forums. The question is can some others do the same?

I've always tried to remain civil in the general discussion forum. The question is can some others do the same? Debate on.. Ding! Ding! Ding! Hypocrisy runs threw your veins it seems as you are probably one of the most guilty of “chiming in” as well as “belittling” other members in your own way. Self: your going to get in trouble Isn’t chiming in so to speak part of debate. (adding our 2 cents) people seem to feel belittled just in the fact that their opinions were challenged. Self: maybe not So really the question isn’t can other do the same to remain civil. It’s can the person on the receiving/viewing end keep thing in context and not take offense to written expression.(of course without the use of swearing) How ever, I can’t say I have never seen you find your way around the word filters(or maybe I have) That is a concern that Thrawn threw out there and only vailid one I see. How ever that’s not what YOU said. Self:do you feel the need Yes self I do

 Re: Threads being locked
Ironic that a thread about locking threads is about to be locked... dont ya think? ( in the immortal words of Alanis Morrissett) LAFF
Thrawn, I hope you don't get the wrong Idea, I agree with D.. You are doing a great job. Just hoping to make a point to the sleeping admins, who ever they may be, that its time to wake up and do the job.. That or pass it on to those that will. I have a few people that I would be happy to nominate! lol (you are on that list, btw.)

 Re: Threads being locked
Thank you Kewlbreeze for proving my point. Wth you around it's pretty obvious that some people can't carry on a civil debate or conversation without resorting to name calling.
