What is the Current status of TWX proxy?
I've been having odd problems with my copy of TWX 2.04 and I figure I need to re-install it. That go me thinking, are there newer versions? I poked about using the Google, and promptly found everything that I was not looking for. I did find a sourceforge link to "TWX_Proxy_pro" version 2.11 All the support forums, mailto links and such are dead, but the download still works. Last activity was "521 days ago", according to an entry on the download page. From the Change log: Quote: * PROGRAM NAME: As I had reported on the TWX Proxy Group's website. In order to keep ElderProphet, and his fans at EIS, happy and to allow him to produce and release the "Official" TWX Proxy. I have made a minor changed to TWX's name. This will allow the Tradewars 2002 players to know which TWX product they are using. And to know that the two programs are not the same product.
I'm not really sure what that means. Was there a controversy about it? Were unkind words bandied about? I totally missed everything related to it. Did any "Official" versions ever get done? I seem to remember Elder Prophet posting that he was going to do a bug fix and port to a more open platform than Turbo Delphi, but I never heard anything more about it. I hear rumors about a TWX 2.05 version. Supposedly it only fixes the windows 7 compatibility issue. I don't use Windows 7, so I don't really care about if it is compatible or not. If anybody knows anything about this "other" version, let me know. From looking in the change log, I can't tell where it branches. I think that 2.04 was the last version that Xide released, but I'm not sure. I am curious to know if it's any better, or if I should even bother with it.

You need a copy of the latest 2.05. If you search here, you'll find more info posted. Linky: http://navhaz.com/files/twxproxy-205.exeYou need to delete your twxsetup.dat files and create a new DB for 2.05 to work.

Re: What is the Current status of TWX proxy?
Aha! There IS a new version out! Does 2.05 fix more than the Windows 7 issue? Is it the comprehensive bug fix that I have been waiting for?!? I hope so Really, as long as the new version doesn't crash on exit anymore, I'll be happy. Is there a way to import my DB from the 2.04 version? *EDIT* I exported my ZTM warp data, and that's really the only thing that I care about that I can't rebuild with a CIM..

It mostly works. There's a few bugs, but you can right-click w/o it crashing in windows 7 now.

Re: What is the Current status of TWX proxy?
Well, that is odd. When TWX 205.exe is on the desktop, it runs and says I need a new DB. When I copy it to my TWX folder (after moving my Data bases to c:\TWX Proxy\Old Version it crashes saying it is "Out of Memory"
Crashing on start-up is not an improvement over crashing on exit...
*EDIT*
Current Free memory: 483 MB That goes way up if Firefox isn't running. So, it's lying about there not being enough memory.

I don't know what issues you do care about, but it works in windows XP, Vista and 7. It is the newest version, and it offers the latest set of features. There aren't a lot of changes between 2.05 and 2.04, at least yet, but you never know. The only bug that comes up a bit is database corruption. Mostly this is before you start using the DB, it just doesn't get created correctly. It's not that big of a problem tho.

Re: What is the Current status of TWX proxy?
The crash on exit I have been putting up with for years. Annoying, but, not a deal breaker. There are a ton of small bugs and issues that one must be aware of when scripting in TWX. The deal breaker is: TWX has started crashing whenever it plays a sound file. Any body pages me, TWX locks up. That is a deal breaker. Somehow, my copy of TWX got screwed up. I need to re-install it. I know that.
What I wanted to know, was if anybody knew anything about this "other" TWX version. Is it better in any way? Is it obsolete? It lists VidKid and some others I don't recognize, as beta testers, and I was hoping that maybe they would chime in.
I wasn't sure that 2.05 had ever been released. Last time I heard it was going to be out "4th of July Weekend" I am fairly sure it missed that date. Later, I heard that somebody had released Version 2.05 and that it was only a windows 7 fix, and that EP had dropped developing his version. I don't know what is true, I have only rumor. If 2.05 only fixes the Windows 7 issue, then I could not care less about it. I do not run Windows 7, and NEVER will. If TWX 2.05 is a Vista/Windows 7 only version and not compatible with Windows XP, then it is less than useless to me.

It was made years ago, is not supported, does not run modern scripts. EP is working on 2.05. He isn't getting paid to do this, it's a labor of love. He works on it as his time allows. It is the most modern version. Anything other than 2.04 and 2.05 will not run modern scripts. 2.05 is fully compatible with windows XP. I run XP as my primary TW OS and it works fine.

Re: What is the Current status of TWX proxy?
The version you found on Source Forge was done by The Wabbit .. who had problems with a few other coders on that and a few other projects and decided to move on. He also vanished from the tradewars community , a sad day for those who knew him. I won't say to use that version or not , since it was never completed. I would suggest to do a clean (new directory install) of twxproxie 2.04 from Archies portal. There is not need to use the Vista/win7 version if your on XP like I am. Desktop installation will lead to problems , so try keep it in default directory when possible. I hope this helps.

I will just reinstall 2.04, and wait for a more stable release of 2.05 I know that porting and updating TWX it a tough project. If it was easy, somebody would have done it ages ago. I have nothing but respect for EP, and what he is doing. I am just glad to hear that 2.05 is still being developed. I don't want anybody to think that I am dumping on EP, or complaining about the time frame, or anything else. Like I said before, all I had before, was rumors. Mostly just crap T.R. Edwards said over Subspace. You know how he is

Re: What is the Current status of TWX proxy?
THe Sound file thing is a result of bad coding practice by the peeps who wrote your scripts.
Sound Ping Sound "Ping.wav"
Both should work but not always.
Write a one line ts files with the above format and a wave file from your root dir and find out which is causing the problem.
I dont have a TS of the Mombot Page command
But
Echo "*YOU ARE BEING PAGED*" sound "page.wav" halt
Compiled and replaced in your Mombot General DIr should solve the issue.
If not get with me on TS or ICQ or IRC and come up with another fix for u.
