John Pritchett wrote: More likely just too much processing for the game at the time it was developed. Though it's possible that Gary had other reasons for leaving it out. I highly doubt Gary forgot to include unmanned ships. As for processing overhead, having to touch every ship in the game (maximum 2000) during a V screen update is a bigger task than touching one ship per player (maximum 500). At this point, it's probably not that big of a deal to process every ship rather than just manned ships, though.
But the point has been made that this does represent a change in gameplay, and not everyone wants changes, even if they are improvements. A little mystery is a "good" thing. So much is known about the game right now, keeping a little bit of it unknown helps to add to the game strategy and suprise factor.

True, although the mystery could be designed rather than dictated by limitations, past or present.

Yeah, left a debug line in that crashes when the game runs without a console window. Doh. It's fixed.

 Re: V-Screen fig count
Working fine. Game "seems" more perky but could be all in my head until we do timing tests.

No its not changing the game, it would, however, change strategy. H

 Re: V-Screen fig count
It's a minor detail, really. Most people do not hide figs on empty ships. It's counter-productive.

 Re: V-Screen fig count
Well, increasing the update frequency and counting unmanned ships would take about 2 minutes to change, so if there's enough support (and no strong opposition) to doing that, I'll do it. It's up to you guys.

 Re: V-Screen fig count
Frequency update would be great. Counting unmanned ships - really doesn't matter one way or the other.

 Re: V-Screen fig count
I always liked the element of strategy and uncertainty involved in not knowing how many fighters your opponents may have stashed away, and also how you could utilize the same tactic against them. Even if it's not the *best* strategy, it is still one people should be free to pursue. If every way was limited to the best way, the game wouldn't be any fun. I know this game draws a technical and analytical crowd, but I enjoy the uncertainty, as it adds a sort of wildcard to the game. When things get too precise, it just starts feeling like a bunch of numbers being thrown at eachother (Yes, I understand that at the root, that's what this game is.), rather than an epic battle for dominance in space.
Update frequency would be nice, but keep the ability to hide fighters.

 Re: V-Screen fig count
-=-=-=- Current Stats for 06:25:59 AM Wed Nov 30, 2022 -=-=-=-
13,996 ports are open for business and have a net worth of 1,183,365,687. 1,033 planets exist in the universe, 87% have Citadels. 86 Traders (79% Good) and 50 Aliens (54% Good) are active in the game. 101,622,480 Fighters and 19,418 Mines are in use throughout the Universe. 24 Corporations are in business.
I guess the word "use" would be the judgement call. Me personally, if they are in the game they should be counted. That's just my 2 cents.

 Re: V-Screen fig count
More frequently updated, but keep figs on unmanned ships uncounted.
Thanks JP!

 Re: V-Screen fig count
wow im torn....I can understand those who would like to leave unmanned ship figs uncounted ...I've utilized the strategy from time to time myself. Hiding figs in solo Games sometimes is a Good thing at some point in any game it becomes redundant. Flipping the coin i can understand the thinking that if the figs are in the universe they should be counted!!!
So in an abundance of caution i vote for NOT changing how the figs are counted , But please update V more often.
Im on the fence if anyone has a differnet point of view i would like to hear it.

Im on the fence if anyone has a differnet point of view i would like to hear it. Figs on ships usually don't account for a larger percentage of game fighters unless it's early in a game. Figs on non-updated and rouge planets can drastically cause the fig count to be way off base.
