 What if...
TW was ported to an entirely different platform and script play was no longer possible?
Now, I want you to think with your imaginations, not your analytical minds. Not looking for arguments why this is not possible, just forget logic right now and use your imaginations.
Level playing field, same "tools" are available to everyone, this game now becomes a game of strategy, skill and resource management.
We would need the game to provide us with some basic routines. Off the top of my head I’m thinking:
PPT’ing – no haggle, best buy, worse buy Moving – product, colos, figs, shields and credits Colonizing – express, t-warp, t-pad Buying down – no haggle, best buy, worse buy SST/SDT - ?
What other routines or scripts would you insist on?

 Re: What if...
It would be a game-in-a-box. A good game for new players, a boring game for many of us. Imagination could not be used beyond what the game itself allows.

Level playing field = Boring and for the weak.
I would not be interested in a game like that.

I would not be interested in a game like that. I know you guys would not be interested in this. I'm just seeing more differing opinions on what is good sportsmanship and what is not. Some go all the way to botting corpies, others say botting corpies is duping. Some exploit teams who bot corpies on their ss channels. Some are much older school than I am and play 100% manually. All I'm saying if there were a level playing field what would that look like? What are the bare minimum scripts or routines that are needed to do the mundane?

It would look like a bunch of server-side scripting that's buggy, gets people killed regularly, and still has people using private scripts because of it. It would look like a bunch of newbs running around w/ an auto PPT when they should be SDTing. It would also be extremely boring. There is no such thing as "bare minimum scripts" because this is a competitive game. Anything the server has will be expanded upon by others privately. JP cannot possible hope to survive in the player v player war.

What other routines or scripts would you insist on? Might be a good idea to attract new players but I'm sure it won't satisfy the current player base. A few other script suggestions might be: 1) Stardock planet bust script. 2) a general photon/move script. (otherwise invasions would be very difficult with 1 second photon duration) 3) Planet Evac script. 4) SSM script (but if you include a sst or sdt script, you should also add a planet cashing script to help balance blue/red cashing) 5) Keep Alive script. (If you don't people will work around this anyway with auto response hot keys) Note: You do know that megas are very easily done by hand as long as a buydown script is available, so this will be part of the game. I have programs that will simulate keystrokes and send them to any selected open window. So the only way you will hinder external scripting is by throttling server input, (CPC is an example), while allowing internal scripts to run at a faster pace.

 Re: What if...
OK, you're not quite getting it yet...
Think outside the realm of servers and keystrokes - scripting is NOT possible. TW has been ported to a new platform.
I know for you guys the scripting is the game, the more advanced the more unique your script to gain an advantage the better it is for you, there is the challenge. You'll always have this.
Now for the general population who might be getting introduced to a space trading game for the first time,
What are the very basic routines - not game exploits, which one could even argue that sst is a game exploit.
Here's our list so far:
PPT’ing – no haggle, best buy, worse buy Moving – product, colos, figs, shields and credits Colonizing – express, t-warp, t-pad Buying down – no haggle, best buy, worse buy SST/SDT
A few other script suggestions might be: 1) Stardock planet bust script. 2) a general photon/move script. (If you don't people will work around this anyway with auto response hot keys)
I’m also thinking I'd like to keep the planet negotiator.

 Re: What if...
Why even bother with this when the current release has issues? Or, have we given up on the current TW to move on to something else?

I was just going to ask, has JP decided to port into something different, like FaceBook perhaps? lol Let's see this version get the fixes first before we jump to something else. Otherwise, many here may be disappointed if all this hype was for nothing.

I just said that because every other time I've posted this question, or something simular I'm always told what "this" version, or "these" settings can or cannot do. I'm just try to inspire some "outside of the box" thinking here. But in truth is it based in reality. From what I understand TWX does not work well with Win7 at the moment. MS has competely stopped selling WinXP licenses, and like all past OS's eventually WinXP won't play will with new applicatons build for Win7.

Otherwise, many here may be disappointed if all this hype was for nothing. There is no way Facebook porting could move fast enough...everyone would have a ping of 4000..Would you play a 4000 ping game? The above move/foton/cashing/ etc scripts are all publicly available. And ANY text based game can be scripted easily Cruncher. The platform would have to react to keystokes or mouse movements in some way and that can be scripted. Just get a mower. Does anyone really think a text based game in a box will compete with the Xbox stuff? Increased play will come if someone saavy in these things would put together a Client/Twx proxy /basic script self installing exe...and a HTML interface page that allowed picking an active game from Stardock game search. Right now if you dont know the link for Stardock search it is hard to find the link...therefore new bangs are hard to find for those peeps who wont read the forums...The forums have few active members reading them because the smack is the center front and few new reg's even bother to post once. An EASY install and EASY game find would go a long way to expanding the apparent base. Hiding games in BBS's etc requires old school knowledge that most dont have imo. This would go alot farther than trying to port to some other platform where TW cant compete. Facebook/Web games are about rotating banner ads. A Facebook interface would require a redirect to telnet or some other interface that has direct port to port connection like telnet or other online game protocol to work so you might as well just do the direct connect and skip the ads.

I am sure EP will have a new TWX thats Win7 friendly shortly..until then there is a version that works for most. One big issue is "path". C:\TWX works much better than C:\my system\my windows\windows 7\user data\my desktop\twx 2.04\twx\scripts Install in your root with the patched twx and you should have little problems.

 Re: What if...
There is a compiled version of twx 2.05 in the script forum that has been created specially by EP to run on Vista/Win7. The main thing to remember is to create the twx directory on the root of the drive not in program files or documents and settings (or users in Win7) viewtopic.php?f=15&t=24713H

Again, you are getting much too caught up in the details of how and what platform. I never said he had any ideas of making a TW for facebook, I did mention an article I read that stated that Millions of people play farm town. If that many people are willing to waste that much time on a game like farm town then they may be hungry for a strategy game like TW. Only today’s game is less about strategy and more about which script you’re going to use. Forget platforms, forget facebook. IF we had a game with built in scripts or routines, what would they be? If you were limited for all time to this one set of routines, what are your “must haves”? And let’s keep in mind that this is a space trading game, and try to keep the game as close to its “original” intent as much as possible.
