It requires an active sysop but more specifically that is anti script. And that seems to be hard to find...how ever you could always go to Scofaxs server but even then I think he plays with scripts as well so I dunno.

He/she would not have to be anti-script, simply anti-afk-script. I am not above running colo runs or worldtrade scripts, and going upstairs to the head, get me more coffee, etc. while it is running. I've even been known to run a ZTM while I'm out in the garage working on my truck or my bike. The problem is the people who are so afraid of losing a single toll fighter that they run afk kill scripts 24/7 when they are in reality not even playing, or doing anything in the game. As I stated in another post somewhere on this board, if there was enough interest in people actually wanting to play a game such as this, I would seriously look into the cost of starting a server. I have the hardware here, since I'm fairly certain my old Compaq Proliant ML530 server would handle TWGS and TW. (Tradewars and Windows2000 Server would be the only things running on it). I would just have to check with Comcrap about getting a static IP address. And maybe convincing my wife that I really do need to upgrade our "speed class". (What she don't know can't hurt me, right???)

Man... I could turn this entire thing on it's head. Just run a lurker w/ an alert.
Someone starts moving around, you log in, torp them, kill them, log back out.
Nobody will even see it coming.

Kill scripts are so easy to FUBAR if you just learn how.

I actually have an idea to try out that may outwit whatever kill script they are using in this game. Problem is, through the week I am limited on my play time (4+hours just after extern, and about an hour mid day). Not willing to push my luck right after extern, when I am still working on building bases. :)

It's very easy. Hit-retreat, hit-twarp, hit-xport, pick your poison. I mean they can
all be adjusted around, but it takes someone at keys to do it... usually.

It takes another scritp or macro. I don't have all day to mess with "your" scritpts.

Besides, a hit-retreat macro doesn't work if the opponent has plock on the sector. I proved that when Kewl pdropped me before I even had the option to retreat.

I've wasted the entire gas supply on an afk players planet before. Never hit the same sector twice and they can't plock. Twarp around and hit/retreat random sectors and they use a lot more gas moving the planet than you do a ship. However, YES. It will take a simple script to accomplish it.

This was when Kewl was camped out just outside my door. If you want to see the cap file, I'll show you again.

But like I said, the whole reason I quit playing before is not because I "can't" trigger and live through scripts, it's because I don't want to, as Sing puts it "play a game-in-a-box" game.

I DON'T WANT TO PLAY BOT WARS, OR SCRIPT WARS... I came to play Trade Wars!

what you want is a 'game inthe box', without the fluidity to allow for whatever we can think of for it to do. you want a limited game. and WE are playing tradewars, you want tradehugs.

What I'm saying is that afk bots are easily overcome. Why would one worry about someone using an afk bot that is easily beaten? I can write you a script that will beat an afk planet photon, pdrop, or plock script script in 20 minutes.

You can beat a plock with a macro, done that too many times provided you do it right. Some gridders have beat my plocks with their normal grid script, so I changed from a plock and they got hit.

Not all scripts are run AFK..sometimes many players will sit at their desk and watch their script go to work. If the script is doing its job, why bother taking over the keyboard manually? Let the script do what it is supposed to do. That's how I look at it.

There is a simple way, that is currently available that will make a plock pretty much ineffective. Just turn sub prompt messages off. So if you don't like plocks, just play games with sub prompts off. Yes Timber, they may not be afk at all. You will find out soon enough if they are at the keys or not because when or if the 1st method doesn't work, they'll switch methods. That's the best part of the game in my opinion is out thinking the opposition and chosing the most effective method. That is Tradewars to me.

again, logic supports this. picard didnt man the helm, nor did kirk. nor did they fire weapons. they were overseers, which is how i thought of it from back in the 90s. im not the captain of the ship running a forklift to unload cargo, or picking up passengers in a shuttle. i guess its a matter of perspective.

I don't think you all realize just how foreign your lingo is to me or anyone who's been away from the game for any time. This has evolved to a game of your scripts against one another, TradeWars just happens to be the foundation upon which your scripts are played.

You've strayed too far off the path, and you're no longer playing TradeWars, really. Myself and I'm sure others would enjoy playing the game we fell in love with in the 90's again. Trade hugs as you call it what I think about the builders games now.

So, OK... sub-prompts off will put a stop to plock? That's helpful to know.

What about if I asked JP to put a toggle that would lock animation on? With animation locked on that would give the planet movement some pacing, as well as t-warp ships. I’m sure some scripts like those to SD shop would have to be modified. Can you think of anything else that may get messed up if we left animation on, besides the kill scripts?

I think I saw somewhere that someone said scripters don’t like aliens. So if we had aliens set aggressive to grid bust, which may be an option to use, once the new beta is on wide release that is with the alien behavior fixes. That would also mean the Alien Home worlds would have to be edited to withstand capture.

I truly am looking for some settings that may work without having to have sysop intervention or babysitting of the games.
