Unread post Death Limit Test
Vid Kid requested that I test the stability of the death limit prior to BOTE

Tourney Mode - on
Death Count - 10
Death Delay - off

This worked as expected, first two pods then kicked to the menu.
I did have to leave and relog on to enter the game again after that each time.
The "I" screen showed proper death count each time.
After 10th death I was kicked off trying to enter the game.

I ran this test locally, twice. If you'd like to test it further I'll make the edit changes to the High Edit game on the Beta server.

Setting to check.

If after extern you have 9 pods used and get podded what happens?

Most tests at it will continue until you finally #SD# which could continue forever? Or is that what the tournament mode does? Asking since I never used that setting and was curios of the results. I know with it off you can continue with tourney mode off, or once you hit 10 and if the server hiccups will it not permit you back on?

Thanks for the info in advance.

BOTE has a death limit of 8
8 Pods = 8 deaths
HOWEVER the 8th has to be a SD or you can remain in game.
Game mechanics allow the player to get to another ship from a POD even after extern an unlimited amount of times until they are SD'd. Any SD after the 8th death will kick the player from the game, and they will be unable to log in after that time.

The trick to not getting knocked out is not getting #SD#...

As long as all you take is a pod, you'll never have to worry about it. However
as soon as you reach the death limit, the next #SD# takes you out.

This is much easier said than done, however.

OK thanks I thought that was the way it worked but without knowing the Tournament setting differences I figured I would just ask.

Thanks

Without turny settings, there is no death limit. That, and the death limit, both have to be set.

OK then, there must have been a change. Remember it's been some time since I've played a death limit game. In my tests I only got pods twice, after that, even though I was in a ship that carried a pod, I was #SD#, no pod for deaths 3 - 9 and after the 10th death when I typed T at the game menu it booted me off the server. (In my case local server.)

I think all 3, don't forget the death delay off. They don't have to wait for extern to get their life back, they can get back in right away.

I think this will make for much faster tournies, faster to death limit. Good change.

Cruncher thats not what hes saying. Hes saying and this has allways been that way (bug?) that if your get normally podded/sd up to pod number nine. On pod #10 as long as you don't exceed the max pods for the day you can continue to play without being kicked out of the game. A example is extern just happened the night before you have 9 deaths total, you then get podded gridding via cannon. You can still get podded once more for the day and not be dead (pod/death limit for you now is 11). Extern happens again your pods are reset you can again get podded twice you eventually get #SD#.

Some including myself consider it a bug since you should have been removed from the game at 10 but could be on pod number 500 before you eat a #SD#.

OK.. right, pods reset at extern.

Just let me know if you need any settings changed on the Beta games for testing. That I know I can do. LOL
You guys are the ones with the knowledge now. I cannot beleive how much I've forgotten.

I've always heard this refered to as a bug, because the pods count as kills, racking up the deaths but it requires a sd to actually kill someone for the game to end for them.
When you think about it, it makes sence though. If you're in your trusty Pod, you're still alive not dead. Maybe this is what the programer was thinking all along.
I have to say it's a bit confusing, but I don't think I'd want to have BOTE set to 8 SD's to knock them out. Would make a really long game I think.

My personal view is that the ability to set a death limit is a bug…

Kinda like vid NOT sending me $5 bucks every time Kraaken wins a game

Not sure I follow KB, you think game should only have 1 death and that's it?
