I'm curious as to why you find people who want to play one day and are done with a game "weak". I can generally play a game on the weekends - maybe an hour or so during the weekdays if I feel like it after reading emails and browsing some sites. TW is not an obsession for me - scripting is what eats up my time and I would venture that any of the good scripters invest as much time as anyone thinking of strategy/tactics. The reason I would venture to say this - scripters have to think of the strategy/tactic and write something that will execute it with the game variables that come into play.

I am beginning to find your condescending elitist attitude regarding todays' players and games a bit on the irritating side. It seems to be the old way is the best and if you don't agree then you don't know how to play the game. I also have a simple solution for you, don't play unlims against aggressive players using an old school approach, and play low turns games with time limits in large universes. Play the game style that you like, and let others play the games they like. You may not like the game style that some of us do, but some may not like the game you envision. My solution to that last sentence, I don't play that type of game so I don't harp on people's game of choice except for an occasional tongue-in-cheek remark, and I play the game types I like.

I'm sorry you find my comments condescending or elitist. I'm just blown away with the changes I've seen. That's why I asked when was it that you first started playing.

What I’m seeing is most everyone playing today fell in love with the game in the late 80’s, early 90’s. Those of us who played through 2002 – 2003 I suppose are now considered “Old School” and we played the game utilizing all aspects. Around 2003 some changes were made that favored scripting, and burst macros were suddenly much more deadly than they ever were previously.

The players who like you started seriously playing after that change see scripting and bot use as just a normal part of playing the game, while those things are entirely foreign to me. If JP gets the game back to the feel it had when I played seriously, you won’t like that either. While we adapted to “Our TW” you have adapted to “Your TW”.

To each his/her own. I still don’t think I’ll ever adapt to using scripts or Mombots to play the game for me. I’m “Old School” and proud of it. When I play, it’s me at the keys you can be certain of that.

I'm not sure everyone has a issue with your opinion but rather the way you have been delivering it. Calling the script forum "Script Kiddies" which in itself is a derogatory word was not a good start. That and you have been harping the same sting in almost every post since you've come back, yes I remember you. In fact what your going through is pretty standard for the older BBS players to go through, heck I went through a similar reaction. The game has changed and either you will also, JP will fix it, or you'll disappear again as most old-timers do.

That said IMO lay off the constant reminders to players you do and do not know about how "good" you were, what a great "teacher" you are, or how much perceived work you've done for todays TW players. While some players myself included remember the old day's most of us that still play have moved on and adapted to today's standard of playing which includes using scripts for the most part.

If it helps with creditability Ive been playing since Major-Mud dialin days (14.4k baud) myself, I moved to TWGS years after my local Wildcat/MBBS went down and have been adapting and still learning a total of 18 years later. Doesnt mean that because I printed up the entire TW manual back in those day's I expect or degrade current players for not doing the same. Honestly the resurgence of players who have been vilifying Scripting as the be all end all of ruining TW is tiresome, more so when those that still play know most of all the returning players will just evaporate when JP moves on.

I echo Cruncher's sentiments. I also play at keys. Sure I might lose the speed edge playing against the macro bursts of a bot..but can the player that kills me with his bot really say that he killed me?

No. His bot did.

Now if the player said he killed me with his own keystrokes, I'll give him credit where credit is due.

Trade Wars used to be about online socialization. Where players might have a simple conversation on fedcom, then resume the game and one kills the other, then still laugh about it afterwards.

These days players take it so Darn seriously. It's only a game, people. Where's the fun if you are going to let a bot do all the work for you?

Who were/ are you in the current tournament game?
or in:
HHT,Moo2,Pirates...ect...there were a lot of kills and a lot of joking around guessed you missed that part...

But hey the people that come on the forums whining and crying about how the game is for WHATEVER reason should expect this type of response...

Multiple people have pointed to different servers now with different games where the environment is what seems to be what your looking for aka builder games...

I don't think I really care so much about the credit for any kill.... we look more at it from a TEAM prospective The team wins not the player... maybe your more self involved then we(Kraaken) are... but just the first thing I think of.

Oh sure, cuz someone is going to manually exit to cit, grab figs, lift off planet, fire a few rounds, land, grab figs and
repeat... all by hand. And sure, that's exactly the kind of play we should be promoting! [/sarcasm]

Grow the frick up. Things change. Being unable to acknowledge your own weaknesses won't make you a better
player, it just makes you a laughing stock.

A win is a win is a win is a win. Excuses are excuses are excuses are excuses.

Uhmmm, Yes

But can the player that built a macro and assigned it to a hotkey really say they killed another player?
Yep

Isn't a script basically a bunch or macros with if statements in between?
Sure Is

I mean did your ship just go boom or are we all going crazy here?
Plead the fifth on being crazy, I do play a text based niche market game.
