 Re: What needs attention?
I don't think I run it as a service, but it happens anytime I minimize to the tray for a day or so. I run dual displays on my home PC, and it occurred under Vista x64 and Win7 x64, but I also think it happens on the hosted server where the last few official tourneys have been hosted, which is running Server 2003 x86. Not 100% sure if it crashes in the tray there, since I just leave the TWGS window up on that dedicated server.
Regarding display drivers, I use the WHQL drivers from AMD, and update every few months.
Thrawn, you disabled dual monitors?? Madness. I can't live without multiple monitors.

Thrawn, you disabled dual monitors?? Madness. I can't live without multiple monitors. I had to. I'm using dual now with my laptop instead for my software/game development/coding. TWGS is now on the main server with it's own monitor. I know when we ran it under XP using dual monitors, I was not running as a service. I was loading it via the exe file. It would be fine as long as we did not minimize it at all. However, it is possible it does not like the legacy device I was using for the second monitor (no- the second monitor was NOT black and white lol).

 Re: What needs attention?
Certainly odd behavior, but ultimately is probably has to do with the code in the compiler libraries rather than my own code, and short of updating to a more recent compiler, not much I can do. If I go to the trouble of updating to a more recent compiler, might as well do a rewrite, because it won't be trivial.

 Re: What needs attention?
One of the things that has been mentioned is the steep learning curve that new players and returning players face when coming back into the game. Not only do they have to learn the commands of the game, the tactics and strategy currently used, but also helpers and scripting. We compound the issue with the various edits that we play and that many of us know very well, but a new/returning player doesn't have a clue about. Even a current player is sometimes at a disadvantage when playing an unknown edit against players or corps that specialize in a specific edit such as Sub Zero for instance. One thing that would help "level" the edit issue is more information on the ships and planets. It is hard to sometimes know what ship is a defender and which ones have IGs. The issue with planets is that it may only go to L4 or take weeks to cover the cit progression, and by then the game may be long over. The above frustrated me and that was the reason I wrote a script that I run in Tedit to at least give some information that players new to an edit can use. An example of this is contained in the screen shots in the following thread: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=22152

Good stuff, Promethius. I will definitely look at providing additional data, and your app is a great start.
Can you email me the tool?

Can you email me the tool? Sent, but it is just a TWX script.

 Re: What needs attention?
Previously, I pointed out an issue with TWGS starting up under a heavy load of players trying to connect. In the past week we saw twgs exit unexpectedly numerous times on the tournament server, and I believe I've isolated the cause. I believe it was because the twgs was set to run High Priority. When I changed it to Normal Priority, it was immediately more stable, and hasn't closed unexpectedly these last 3 days. I believe this is the cause of the earlier mentioned issue too, with players hammering it with connection attempts as it is coming online.

Maybe should consider doing "away" with the Low/Normal/High priority and just set TWGS to run on normal. Unless the high priority was meant for a TWGS running only on a dedicated machine.

Lol, perhaps John should consider adding an option- "Low/Normal/High/Need Serious Help"

 Re: What needs attention?
Are you talking about the settings for a process in the task manager? I always wondered what realtime would do for twx or twgs. I haven't messed with those settings yet because I thought it might cause issues (swath/twx).

You might want to fix the getting Photon'd in an UNLIM 'Exploit' --circumventing the 5min Delay. As an aside, I think the Galactic Bank could use a makeover.. lots of room to grow there. Oh. One more thing. Ship IG should have a 'Failure Percentile', imo. BUMP

 Re: What needs attention?
Shrug. Dunno about the ship IG, it's easy to get out of that as-is.
Bigger bank would be nice. Up it to 10m, or 100m, or something useful.
Photon delay is 1 minute per second of wave. A 3 second wave would be 3 minutes. But yea, that bug should prolly be fixed too. Right now it's trivial to bypass.

 Re: What needs attention?
The effects of a photon should be cleared the same way in an unlim as a turn game. Wait until the top of the hour before you move. Waiting 1-5 minutes isn't much of a penalty if you get torped 1 in 500 sectors of gridding, and with the bug you clear it anyway.
