I think they are talking about 2 different things. When vulcan started up the new forum after the meltdown of the original EIS forum, he migrated the post count to that forum. When Elec started this one, he used the post count of the original EiS forum, which didn't include any posts that were made in Vulcan's forum. There was a time when the original EIS forum was bugging out because the database was wacked out. At that time part of the database was lost and possibly some of the post counts were lost, but that wasn't in the transfer of the database, that was before Vulcan started that new forum and it had to be done because of the data corruption. I believe that Vulcan and earth had to fix the problem immediately and plans were made to make drastic changes or lose the entire database at the time.

I tend to forget what happened while EIS was having problems with data corruption at the point where Vulcan and Earth brought up a site that had all the info available. As I recall it turned into some kind of power struggle between a couple folks that might end up being a loss to all of us. IMHO it would be a good idea to have another alternate site serving as a mirror just in case there might be another crash due to any kind of bug. That way at least what is still here would be intact. Just my 2 cents from the peanut gallery of course!

the "lost" data archived somewhere?

I do agree that a mirror/archive is important.... what I don't want happening is 10-20 years down the road when I'm
being interviewed for a Nobel Prize; one or more of my infamous posts will be brought to light causing me to lose the prize
to some other nerd.

The wayback machine is great, but has some drawbacks, not least of which is that it doesn't go much past the front page. I've tried to find the missing posts on it without success.
