The Hive needs a fast home
The Hive corporation is quickly coming together. We will be needing a host server... a home base of operations. We have very experienced players with sting'in pings, so... we would be looking to keep that as an asset with a home server that will handle that kind of throughput. Also, we would ask the sysop to help evolve a new edit... "Black Market". That will involve some practice sessions to work out any edit snags, and for The Hive to acclimatize itself with this new style of play. From the player side... well we will try to bring recognition to your server and increased usage. We will promote a more complete game experience with what tools are available. Now to be honest ... i am not entirely sure about profitablility (as compared to, say, sst) ... We are looking for game play that exceeds current programing. We are willing to give it a try. If it does not pan out as hoped... and we find ourselves hoplessly behind in every game... we would have to let it go. For the immediate future, though... we are ready. So, if you have a blistering server, that is under used or not represented.... we can help each other cc bee.... out.

Re: The Hive needs a fast home
Depending upon what you are asking I may be able to assist.
My server is currently only utilizing about 5% of it's potential. It is running in a virtual environment, with a second virtual server (XP) completely unutilized. If you have a registered tradewars instance and desire hosting, I could potentially open up my second server on a different port and allow you access to do whatever you wanted.
Let me know what you are thinking.

Re: The Hive needs a fast home
hi Rival, not having too much exp. with the server end of gaming tw, i may have confused the issue. We are looking for a server to play from. A fast twgs that we can call home, attract players and develop an edit called "Black Market". The sysop would accept us as player reps for his twgs server. The Hive and the sysop would develop the "Black Market" edit. If possible, The Hive would like access to Tedit on your machine, in one designated, closed Hive practice game. We could play witht he edit to see if Black Market is possible, and if so, how would it work. Once the edit is running the way we feel it should... we would then invite other corps. to give it a try. We are expecting longer game play, political intrigue, increased cashing methods, player/character development, less focus on build to combat readiness, more focus on ... "the universe is our home." Some players might decide to operate a fuel depot, where other players warp ships and planets to the depot to buy extra fuel, another corp. might surround an alien planet to farm the higher quality ships that are then sold to other players... etc. Rival, this is a project of ours to see if we can twist the twgs settings to allow "Black Market" play. I hope that cleared the fog from my original post. If not, perhaps one of my other corpies could talk it over with you as they have more server side exp. Thanks for the interest and quick response. cc bee... out.

You'll need to focus on getting the right players. It'd be all too easy to invade and kill that sortof stuff.

Re: The Hive needs a fast home
I think I would have no problem accomidating your requests. I would be more than happy to set you up with a game or two that you can do with as you wish. Being centrally located in the midwest I have had outstanding ping reports from all over the USA.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but you may want to get familiar with TWGS tedit before you go too far with some of your ideas. From what you are saying, I beiieve you will be disappointed at the limitations of tedit. You can do some of the things you are talking about, but everything will have to be done by hand, and when you rebang the game, you'll have to do it all over again.

I'm certain they can either write a script or ask one of us many scripters to help them write a script for the rebang portion of the edit, ensuring their options are set according to their needs. It would not be too hard to facilitate that.
Their ideas sound rather interesting and I'm looking forward to following it's progress.
Cheers

Cheers Believe me, I'm not trying to discourage new ideas. I just wanted to point out that tedit alone won't accomplish what he's looking for. He could go the route of a script to do the big bang and the initial game settings, but the problem still remains of distributing each edited product to the correct player or corp. A lot of this will have to be done by hand after the players and corps are established. However, if you do figure out a way for a script to edit each new player that enters the game a new L6 planet stocked with gas, figs, and shields, I would be interested in it myself for the Killfest edit.

Re: The Hive needs a fast home
It sounds like it is going to be a long term game correct? Not something banged every week? If so you just need to nail down the specifics then do ur thing. You going to make this a closed game? IF not you might run into some party poopers....

Re: The Hive needs a fast home
Also another cool Idea you can try to use is, instead of having to go into tedit and edit everyones stuff. There should be a player there or a corp designated to building and selling planets with product on them...actually sounds cool....but would have to be organized...

Re: The Hive needs a fast home
Why would you photon invade a class 1 planet? There's no cannon or shields to worry about.

Re: The Hive needs a fast home
Save yourself the trouble and just use empty L6's. Don't leave colos, figs, or shields on the planet but you can fill them with product (leave the IG off and cannons set to 0) and let the people land and move them out.
