 Re: Silver Wings TWGS History
Laff. Anyone working 80 hours a week wouldn't have time to play TW.
If you're 20 years old and not doing anything else, and really love doing it, fine. Most people have other things they'd rather be doing, family, friends, whatever. 80 hours a week means you have no time for anything else. Sleep, eat, get the hell to work, work, go home, sleep. Screw that. Work to live, not live to work.
And yeh, if a sysop wants to request donations, fine. It's their server. Just don't be surprised when people stop going to your server.

 Re: Silver Wings TWGS History
Wow didn't expect a thread about this when I came by for a visit.
Soul is one of only two people in TW I ever hated on a personal level. The other guy treated me pretty badly and then left his wife, my friend, for some other girl in Oklahoma, and he's still a distant second to Soul.
Soul did everything he could to undermine me. He told (and convinced!) countless people that I had ulterior motives to everything I did. He bashed my TWGS. He bashed my website. He bashed my friends. He bashed my wife. He bashed my kid.
I never trusted him, but at one point I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. He told me he could get me the cheapest prices on CPU's (which I was buying for yet another TWGS) and I sent him money. Never saw the CPU's. After months of trying to get my money back I finally did, AFTER he called me and my wife every name in the book over the phone. He made it his personal mission in life almost immediately to attack me as much as he could.
Not to mention his incredibly faulty logic in an argument and poor grammar/spelling, he was in insufferable.
Big D and I didn't used to get along, either, but since Soul's been out of the picture we get along fine. He truly was a poison in the community.
And in the end, it seems history has proved me to be in the right.

 Re: Silver Wings TWGS History
This is the 1st I've heard about most of the things you say. as I kept everything I did within a forum. I try not to deal with other members on a personal level as much as I can, and I can't condone personal attacks on anyone. I don't even think that real names should be used in arguments. This is a game and should be kept that way, on a non-personal, fictional, level. It's fine to call a fictional character stupid and ugly, but to step over the boundry and say in real life your wife and kids are stupid and ugly, is going a bit far. To actually attack somone's credibility or property in real life over a game is insane, and anyone that ever went to such lengths was wrong, including me.

Quote: Why would players leave just because a sysop asked for donations? That would be dickish on a player's part. Well, I wrote that with a certain innuendo. The discussion was about pay to play, and then the reply was "well they can ask for donations." So put the word "donations" in quotes to understand what I was talking about. But yeh, if a sysop just casually asks "hey, can you help the server out?" nobody's going to care and some might actually help. But if the "donation" is a bit more forced it's going to be hard to build a player base and attract new people.

Quote: Who has ever "forced" a donation? *blink* Really? That's what a pay-to-play system is. People have to pay money to play on it.

 Re: Silver Wings TWGS History
Well, I made a $95 donation to the local PD recently - gotta be a donation because I didn't get anything of value. I didn't even get to keep the piece of paper the nice officer gave me a few days before giving the donation.

Quote: No. That's called a "pay-for-play". I've never gone to a grocery store and "donated" money for my groceries. That's why I put it in quotes last time. Seriously, do you honestly not get the concept of sarcastic referencing? Sometimes adults do this thing where they take a word and give it an additional meaning in order to imply something else. Understand? Do I need to use [sarcasm] tags with you? I've played with most of the ppl on this particular thread quite a bit, and I can tell you from experience, I generally don't need to. But if that's going to be required w/ you, then I'll take note of that. Note: I guess from this point on the thread should be moved to smack. How sad, really. It was very nice of you to contribute to the efforts of your local police department. Do you feel good for having done your civic duties?

Hey Eleq, good to see you still alive and kicking.
Sing, I don't think this needs to move to smack, Eleq is hard to start a flame going with - God knows I tried unsuccessfully many times back in the day, grin. Now, K3 and Prestone, different story, very thin skinned and great fun to bait.

No seriously, don't try to insult me by talking down to me. I don't know who you think you are, but you are not as high as you think. Seriously, if an "Ambassador" of this forum spends his time talking down to people, especially to me, maybe you need to be replaced. I understand what you meant. I asked who "forced" donations because there are in-between scenarioes between donations and pay-to-play. See, a forced donation implies they were threatening to cut off services if they didn't get what they wanted, or threatening to switch to a paid system altogether. Or in Promethius's case, if the police asked for a donation in return for high priority response times. But you were too busy thinking the world around you isn't as intelligent as you are, instead of realizing there are shades of grey to my question. Quote: Note: I guess from this point on the thread should be moved to smack. How sad, really. It is sad, especially when you are the one being a dick.
