Unread post telnet scrolling resources issues
Hi all,

I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled XP SP2 exactly like it was previously on the same computer I was using previously. Nothing has changed.

I have Swath 1.9.4 or whatever the latest version is installed and I had Zoc 6.18 and 5.something both installed and tested. On the server I am playing on my ping is 170 so that is irrelevant.

The scolling in both programs is extremely slow. The fig list scrolls the speed the cim list normally would. If I run the fig list then alt-tab to another minimized program still watching the zoc or swath screen it moves slightly faster yet process explorer still shows 50-60% of resources used and it is slow.

I tried just telneting in with windows telnet and when I did a fig list using that almost no resource use on the telnet program but the csrss.exe shot up to 60-80% [It is not the hijacked file].

I installed the latest java to be sure that was not it. I have onboard video graphics card. But basically any ideas? Nothing has changed except I reinstalled windows.

Any advice appreciated. I can't even really play with the way it is currently running.

You are not alone. I have reported and commented on this bug in swath numerous times. There is no fix, no work-around, it just lags. For me it started in the 1.9.x series, 1.8 did not do it.

I had heard about this but I think you missed the part where I said zoc 5 and 6 both did the same thing. And windows telnet hogged resources on the csrss.exe file ...

However if it is available I will reget swath 1.8 and see if that works but I doubt it.

I switched to 1.8.3 Swath and still having the same issue. For some reason it won't scroll correctly and ties up resources, same in zoc, and windows telnet [though windows telnet maxes out the csrss.exe] ...

I guess some may have not had time to read this but no one here has a suggestion? I can't even play with it like this.

Verify you have correct video drivers installed.

Goto - Start > (right click on)My Computer and select Manage > Device Manager

Verify that under Display it does not say standard vga, if it does you need to find the make of the computer and get correct video drivers. If it is not a dell or gateway or other named computer you may have to open the side of the case to get the make / model of the mother board. Then d/l and install the correct drivers.

I've had issues with SWATH doing that, but if we switched to ZOC or a telnet window it was playing fine with no lag in the scrolling. I've never experienced that before in all 3 applicaions.

When you use SWATH, ZOC, or telnet, were they connecting to TWXProxy? If so, did you check the setting Cache database in available memory and uncheck that, and does TWXProxy have the logging checked? Only reason is I notice if I have these checked, our TW playing is a bit slower than normal.

Ok now I am just confused.

i re-installed zoc 6.18. I can do almost anything in that with no resources or lag problems. EVerything else is still having an issue though. Unfortunately zoc 6.18 has a very short evaluation period and I don't have the money to register it right now.

Does this make any sense at all to anyone?

I have not had the problem with zoc, putty or telnet.exe

You're running this native or in any kind of emulation?

Do you have any kind of device conflicts?

Get a copy of hijaackthis and run it. Post the results, it might be a service or
something you have running that's playing port cop.

Can you get a log from the system resources monitor? Maybe get a better record
of the flaw.

When you load WinXP if it can not find drivers it loads a default that allows you to be able to get up and running but they are typically very sluggish. I had LT open his case and get the MB Make and Model and we found the correct driver for a SIS 964L chipset and all is well.

Good job bud. I know who to get ahold of when my coffee maker starts acting up ;)

Cheers

Ah. I don't use onboard video. Nvidia 9800gtx for host and vbox for guest. He didn't have a driver disk? SIS 964L is southbridge, did you update his video drivers or his southbridge drivers? That could be interesting...

If all you need to get is the correct model for a video card you can do it without opening up the case. In device manager, display adapters, go to details then hardware IDs. You'll see something like this:
"PCI\VEN_80EE&DEV_BEEF&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_00"

That tells you the PCI vendor ID, device ID, subsys and revision number (in this case vbox graphics adapter). Search on google for the vendor number and device ID and you'll get the make and model of the card.
