Thing is, I've seen a lot of so-called crackpot theories that seem to have a whole hell of a lot more supporting evidence than the official version of events.
Care to give an example? I suspect you're confusing claims for evidence, but without a specific example
I can't know.

What strikes me is peoples' unwillingness to even consider the evidence when the theory itself sounds outrageous.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. If it fails to prove it's case beyond a reasonable
doubt then it hasn't proven it's case.

some of these theories seem very solid...
Like?

I think Rexx looked a lot harder at that stuff than any of the people arguing against him...
He became so obsessed with it he refused to even question things. When others did, he couldn't understand.
Strange reflection of counter-culture in general, really.

Ok, you come off here as supporting Rexx's 'research.' Did you follow any of his links supporting his arguements? I did. I really tried to follow the direction of his almost-entirely-web-based 'research.'
I tried, they did a very poor job of supporting their claims. Basically it was supporting a claim with another
unsubstantiated claim, and repeating that over and over like a massive web of tangents that eventually cycle
right back to the original claim. Circular logic taken to a complex extreme.
I've always found it ironic that some of the supposedly smartest people in the world fall for the dumbest of
stuff.
