Performance hit? Nah. It just stalls every day, crashes w/o warning and corrupts your DB at random.
Wine is a piece of garbage when it comes to both swath and twxproxy. What you want is to run virtualbox, install XP under it, and run that way. When ran, you can either run the vbox guest machine as an intranet of the host, or as a bridged NAT ip. The latter means you can setup TWGS under it if you want. Swath and TWXproxy runs great under vbox as long as you shut it down properly when you do things. There's a few settings to tweak for speed, but on full-screen mode it rocks. Got it running right now in dual lcd 1920x1080 mode. It's on the right screen, my main stuff is on the left, and I've got 3 other desktop sets I can work on. With xrandr you can even swap screens, so if your left is closer than your right you can swap em when you need to work on stuff.

Yeh, but a modern ubuntu system is very secure. There's maybe 4 ports open, and you can filter those by putting it behind a router. It would be very difficult to get to my desktop from the public IP. The number of open ports on an XP SP3 system is shocking, take a look sometime if you're curious. I'd trust Ubuntu over a windows box any day of the week when it comes to security. If you're freaked out over it just run stuff under a user instead of as a boot daemon. There'd be no way to use a TW hack to penetrate system files then.
