 Re: EIS Server Invitational
It was my understanding that the rules stated that there were to be no subs after the games started. I'd like to know for sure what the rules are on this matter, because it has come to my attention that Saarducci replaced Magnum on corp 3 after the game started. Since we have a player that can't play and we thought it was against the rules to replace him, our corp isn't very happy about it. I mean that is an extra 1250 turns per day.

I have asked EP to Run the IP logs if there is a discrepency it will be posted here.If there is NOT a discrepency that will also be posted

 Re: EIS Server Invitational
The logs have been thoroughly investigated and do not show a substitution after game start.
I would like to point out that log investigation can be a tedious endeavor. I will likely be making public some of the tools I created along the way to assist.
Yes Rev, the game started on time. I actually had the server set for "Startup Mode: Online", and then I scheduled a task to launch TWGS at the appointed time. However, I neglected to uncheck the box "Stop task after 72 Hrs", and so at exactly 9PM 3 days later it stopped... even though I had removed the task from Task Scheduler. Oops! So sysops, make sure to uncheck that box if you use Task Scheduler.

So sysops, make sure to uncheck that box if you use Task Scheduler. yeah log investigation difficulty is part of the reason i have refused to run truce games on my server. the other reason is that there is no way in TWGS to boot a player via the admin login. if you could boot a player without using the GUI, i.e. from the admin login via telnet, then you could write some cool truce automation via frequent automated log inspection. such a script could detect truce violations and then ban a player and boot them automatically. alas, my requests for this feature have gone unanswered. glad to hear the game is going well; tough lesson learned on task scheduler - thanks for sharing.

 Re: EIS Server Invitational
why ban people.. just keep deleting their Assets, and keep em in a Pod Actually. You can Delete a player via TEdit-->User Listings.. this has the effect of moving them to Sector 0 (zero).

Actually. You can Delete a player via TEdit-->User Listings.. this has the effect of moving them to Sector 0 (zero). yeah i actually wrote a script that would monitor logs and punish rule violators. my method was to tedit each game with sector 5000 (or whatever the max sector number was) as an isolated sector, no warps in, no warps out, and move players there for a "time out" period. hehe. effectively, players would have to cby to get back into the game. i would rather boot/ban them for a period of time so that they are not using a node until their punishment period is over. then their opponents would enjoy killing them while they are offline, a nice perk. also, the script wouldn't have to enter tedit to boot/ban.

 Re: EIS Server Invitational
I have that too Rev, not automated, but I rarely use it. The problem is that someone can X-Port out into another ship, even if the sector is warpless. Although thinking about it now, I usually put them in a special "Penal Ship" anyway, if I make it so the sector has a warp out, but put a Level 6 planet that only has interdictors on, hmm... it is usually too much hassle though.

 Re: EIS Server Invitational
I'd also like to add that this tourney will be the last time limited tourney I will play. Reason? I've been screwed twice on time from time bugs and I know of at least 3 others that have been screwed on time. Tradewars just doesn't handle time well and I doubt if these bugs are any of J.P.'s high priroity fixes.

The timelimit bug has hurt my team at least 3 times that i know of..Its too bad this bug cant be nailed down...It never seems to be able to be recreated in a dependable fashion other times it occors with out the other circustances..So this is a hard game bug to figure out..let alone fix...But..i agree i also wont be playing any "tournys" with a time limit.//Shame really....

That isn't the case. Then to top it all off, I just got nailed last night and didn't even die. I logged out around 11pm last night and went to the game prompt and was running a script watching the high scores screen. I didn't log back into the game until 3pm this afternoon, and had the same amount of time I left with at 11pm last night. I 1st thought maybe you need to log out to the main menu, but if the time was still running at the game prompt, I would have been out of time long before 3pm this afternoon. The bug is that the time just isn't resetting itself sometimes. I would assume that when you are ship destroyed that your time goes to 0 and then is suppose to reset at midnight, but I have no clue what caused the problem last night.

 Re: EIS Server Invitational
Seems like time resets at midnite, but if and only if you're not at the T prompt (or one of it's submenus).
If true, this is a massive bug that makes timed games largely unplayable. It is possible to figure out your opponent's login name and simply log on and sit at the T prompt thru midnite to prevent their return. Or at least greatly decrease their time limit.
A fix would be to make the time reset part of extern.

A fix would be to make the time reset part of extern. I was thinking the same thing, but to know for sure, we'll have to do some testing. Maybe after this tourney I'll test it extensively when I have more time. From July 3rd thru the July 5th I may not be in any shape to test or play TW.
