 TWR ?
I've found another Trade Wars, with graphics... seemed odd at first but why not. I'm reading a lot about server closing and stuff like that when those guys are developing like nuts. Why dont you assiossiate yourself with them to bring new people here ? That could be nice for this community Anyway that's my 2c.

I did not knew about that. So I guess I should tell LoneStar that he is an Butt for his statement. Love the family spirit here of people asking question.

 Re: TWR ?
...and servers are opening up all the time? Why not associate yourself with a game that's a proven winner? Graphics games are a dime a dozen.
But then, just my 2c.

TWR is the typical graphics candy, game-in-a-box from what I can tell of it - haven't played the game. Graphics are nice but if I were to go to something like that I would probably pick WoW. TWR will probably live on beyond TradeWars (text based version) because of the graphics, not sure about the game play. Having said that, I doubt if the people who are looking for a game of the type that TWR is, would be very interested in a text based game.

 Re: TWR ?
Fair enough. I'm playing here and there nothing to serious. I prefer the text games to graphic ones. No matter the graphics, but that's how I am It has become harder since the election to find Trade Wars server since when you google it you were landing on news site. Maybe it will be easier to find some isolated server again

Maybe it will be easier to find some isolated server again I ran into a player last night that "I think" was playing his first few games of TradeWars. I talked to him a bit and found out that he is blind and using some type of text to voice system so I think TradeWars fits that scenario very well. I had never thought of TradeWars filling an area such as this - but I had also thought that texting a converstation on a cell phone kind of crazy until I found out what a boon it is for someone who is very hard of hearing or deaf. We don't realize how lucky we are when our senses of vison, hearing, touch, taste, and smell work - we just take it for granted. We've coded a software package for him to launch his TWXProxy and ZOC for a game. Working on launching scripts through the software, as well as working on items on the screen display being fed back through voice so he has an idea what is going on. It's been an interesting challenge for me.

 Re: TWR ?
Thats pretty neat. There was another player on here, its been awhile. Who help teach the blind and hearing impaired, and he had set something up so they could play the game. I know it was talked about on here once or twice but i can not remember who that was.
Oh and PT, why find a out of the way sever, jump in a game and ask for help. I bet youd be suprised at what happens. If htey dont answer right away just leave an icq # alot of people check who said what while they were gone.

 Re: TWR ?
Just wanting to jump back on topic and give my .02 about twr
I don't know anything about the community issue as I was not apart of that, but I did try out TWR and found that while it's nice to have visuals, it doesn't make up for something as simple as a pair->trade script. Oh sure you can program a macro to handle this, but at a 3 second delay between moves, it means that pair-trade will take you 2-3 days to complete.... Yawn....
There are other problems too... Say your in sector 432 carefully looking over your new GUI menu, someone warps in and attacks you destroying your ship... You don't find out about any of this until after your next move. So you move to the next sector 34 and notice that with out warning you're no longer in your ship but in a pod wondering what the hell happened. As this game is hmtl/javascript based, it will be interesting to see how they solve this problem. HTTP requests are slow, and an AJAX request is still nothing more then HTTP. Oh sure you could setup ajax to query the server every second or even half a second... But what if it takes a full 2 seconds to make the full request in the first place? It might actually work better if they programmed a client in something other then HTML/Javascript... Even something like Flash or Java would work better. Until that happens they are at the mercy of the slow http/html requests.
AT any rate, I found the game play was much too slow with TWR. I'd rather read text and have a faster game play, then look at pretty graphics.
