Hang / Pause during long haggles
I've seen it on other people's servers, and mine does it too. It seems like on long haggles, say about the 6th offer or so, you enter your amount and press enter, but the game server doesn't respond with a yes or no, it just sits there as if you've been disconnected. But you haven't been, and the next keystroke you enter makes it start moving again. If you hit enter, it will give that enter key to the next offer from the port, and you will have bought/sold at the price offered. I've learned to hit space instead so I can keep haggling ; ) but it does seem to a be a problem. If anyone else has this issue or knows of something else that causes it besides a game bug, I'd love to hear about it. It occurs from both the local LAN and from the outside internet.

You are haggling by hand? You need to grab my haggle script from Grimy. Of course, it expires in 5 days and you'll have to update it, but think of all the extra money you can make between now and then Seriously though, I don't recall my haggle routine ever running into a situation like you describe, and I've left it running for days before. You're sure you aren't just fat-fingering it? +EP+

I have encountered the pause while moving through sectors when using pure telnet in a game. The game sits there waiting for another keystroke to move. This also has happened on ppt by hand with telnet. I have never had it happen when using SWATH, just telnet. Are you using MS's telnet or a helper such as SWATH or ATTAC or even Zoc (which I don't view as a helper, but still a very good choice).

Re: Hang / Pause during long haggles
Lol yep, I'm actually haggling by hand. There are some things I've scripted out on my own but I'm a little bit of a purist when it comes to game play (i.e. manual with no helpers). It's not so bad; it's the way I learned in like 1992 or something and it always just felt "right." Most of the time I get my 2-5 exp on the first or second try, but this has come up with new players and is reproducible (sp?) on demand. I'm positive I'm not fat-fingering it (been doing it a long time : ). Anyway, two things of actual technical merit about this subject : )
1. I have since narrowed it down to only occurring in the Windows Telnet client. PuTTY and Hyperterminal seem to be unaffected. So, that _may_ make it just a Windows Telnet client bug (i.e. don't waste too much time on it), HOWEVER...
2. It mimics something else that is actually a real and totally serious item that I would like to make into a feature request for a future release: When running across a firewall that has fairly short xlate timeouts (e.g. Cisco PIX 515, FortiNet FG300A, etc, defaulting 15 minutes), I am seeing sessions get disconnected after the timeout period even when they are active. It's not totally consistent, but it does happen. So, what I was going to ask John for was to add a feature on the TWGS side to enable or disable TCP keepalives as desired (and set the interval).

Already can set the keepalive interval, not sure if you can disable it but you can set it to something insane like a full day. This is something that's worth scripting, IMO, since you can send invisible keepalives every minute or so and take care of the problem.

Re: Hang / Pause during long haggles
Are you talking about on the client side (eg PuTTY)? I know you can configure that... Hopefully I'm not about to get -5 points for dumbness ;) but I looked in TWGS and couldn't find any server-side settings for manipulating keepalives; are they present and I'm just missing them?

Re: Hang / Pause during long haggles
Ok just checked on the specifics... it's in t-edit, general editor 2 (H), as option number 5 "Online Verification At" ...
Seems expressed in seconds, range is from 60 seconds to 3600 seconds, so 1 minute to 1 hour. Can't disable it, but 1 hr is pretty long.

Re: Hang / Pause during long haggles
Cool, thanks a lot for that info. I never realized / connected that that was keepalives. Thanks for the help!

Re: Hang / Pause during long haggles
The menu doesn't have an issue. You have an issue with the menu. Get it right.
I'm about to roll an update (overdue), and I'll create an option to surpress the menu.
