correct me if i'm wrong, but i think when you change a ship edit, it doesn't update the ships that are already in use - it only affects ships purchased after the ship edit change.

Hrm, changed defensive odds on some ships during a test and it wouldn't update the odds on the ship until we xported out of the ship, moved a sector, then xported back in.

Or people could just be responsible for their own play and if they can't bother to get a new ship or coordinate the change-over they could just play another edit...

I think you missed that the ship that new players start with after the truce doesn't hold any figs. They might be able to slip through at extern but otherwise they cant get to SD to get a new ship

I think you missed that new players should come in sooner, lol. They might be able to get to dock, but it's not like they'll survive out in the universe for long as a solo with such a time disadvantage. Then they'll whine about getting killed and call the established players cheaters and blame it all on scripts, when they just couldn't be buggered to find a corp or build their resources.

Rev, what I am thinking of would not change the specs of any specific class, but rather change a specific ship to a different class, which is done instantaneously. This is one of those ideas that is going to gnaw at me and isn't going to go away...

River Rat Truce Edit...(only truce game worth its salt imho)

Starter ship had Zero figs..Zero Mines....Zero Dets

You are right on RR's truce game since it is/was the only edit that enforced the truce on its own.

i think it was rev's "one" ship.......and it was the only ship in the game, just balance out offense and defense odds...like a low tpw iss..

the only thing i see that might create a problem is if u get sd'd...your next ship would have a pod that you started back in the game with...or maaybe it wouldn't have a pod......not sure of the inner workings of the twgs....leave that up to the higher learn'd folks

You can set your ships up with or without a pod. MemphisTW had an edit by SupG that had the Podless Wonder. I haven't seen that edit anywhere but Memphis and would like to get a copy of it.

You don't seem to understand what I said. A person starting in a starter ship that held 0 figs couldn't get to the dock. It's hard to kill 1 fig with 0 figs on your ship. lol
So it's pretty much impossible to start after ships that held figs were introduced. Also the 1st person to get in a ship that held figs could surround the dock with 1 fig in each sector and keep everyone out until extern. I actually did that in that exact edit and everyone quit because they couldn't get a ship until after extern and by then I had the game wrapped up.

Ok let me spell this out, lol. Ships go figgly, you make sure you're at dock when it happens w/ enough cash to buy one. k? Before it happens. Or, push comes to shove, you have your corpie drop a figgy ship in fedspace for you. This is no different than a week into a game where touching anything outside of fed means instant death, people have gotten soft to the fact that they can't always expect an equal game against better, more equipped, more timely players. Some advantages just can't be beaten no matter what you do.

If a person can't get thru a blockade because they didn't have the foresight to get to dock early, well tough freaking luck, learn from the mistake and play the next bang. The opposing team can't show up to a football game an hour later and expect to be coddled, be on time.

Dude, unlims mostly... but even if it isn't: It's more or less impossible to start late regardless of truce ship or no. Seriously, if a person gets in on day 2... do you really think they're going to survive? Most ppl can't even survive after an hour disadvantage. So what if they DO make it to dock because the sysop changed the starter ship, does that give them ANY better chance in the rest of the universe where they've got grid and grid defense to overcome? Of course not. New players need to learn to choose games better, it's one of the most important skills someone can learn.

Sing let me spell this out for you. I've won at least 25% of the games I've played by starting on day 2 or later. I can get in, and do get in in most cases, and I usually win, or at least give them a good battle. Now, you may not be able start an existing game and compete with your style of play but I can. Now what I can't do is get to the dock in a ship with no figs until extern runs and clears the msl to the dock. There are numerous ways to get into a game late and compete, especially if you have a couple of good corpies. The 1st thing you need to do is take a chance which from the sounds of it, you don't have the balls to do that. Sure, anyone can compete by starting the 1st minute the game is open, and killing all the noobs in the game, however, I don't define that as a win. Anyone can be a bully but real players like competition.

So what you're saying is that you've managed all these wins and still can't get past a single fig blockade and don't have anyone to drop a ship for ya. Yea, okay then. Where are those good corpies again?

By day 2 I'll have 80% of the universe gridded in an unlim. Good luck w/ that. Is it possible to win after the first day? Sure if the competition is lazy and lets you in. But by that same standard you don't really need sysop charity to do so, either. If the competition isn't lazy, well... no, no it isn't.

RR truce edit was a unlim...your not going to start after truce ends anyway.....to prevent an ongoing moot arguement one could change the starter ship after truce ends

What it did do tho is eliminate

1)Limpets in every sector.
2)Roach Motels
3)Building next to fed (to much of a fuze risk) and it was against the rules anyway.
4)Tag
5) Blue/Red Flipping
6) IG grabbing
7) Whining
.......

Interesting things including Blind Warp Coloing and Blind Warp Buydowns were fun :)
