The game been dieing for years now eventually we will all grow old and die off and no one will be left that knows anything about tradewars.

Games now days have graphics. Most of the people on the Internet know nothing about BBS’s, and Telnet. They want a pre packaged self-install file with high-end graphic displays and surround sound.

No one has an imagination anymore.

Modern TW requires imagination in the sense that chess requires imagination. Those players who actually visualized themselves at the helm of an ISS have long since left for far more satisfying space RPG's / MMO's.

Comeon, I know if some of us have, at times, been big enough dorks to think that.

I didn't mean to imply otherwise. TW players are fantastic dorks, and the space simulation angle probably attracted quite a few players to the game.
However, it's the strategy that's kept people hanging around all these years.

Whatever you say Sing, :P

I don’t think it was the strategy that kept me playing or brought me back to the game. For me at least it was more the concept of the game and the connections to star trek that brought me back and kept me playing. Then after that wore off the friends I made in the game and my corpies who kept me hanging around.

The TW strategy is not really that hard to figure out or thrilling to play. Plus most of it been thought out by someone else for you already.

Quite a bit of what we take for granted as TW strategy is not as intuitive as you make it out to be. If it is, then how come entire legions of BBS users never thought of something as "simple" as SST?

Speaking for myself, being part of a constantly evolving/shifting game was part of the appeal. Innovation is fun.

Reason I'm still here. There is a lot left to think of in this game. While it's true that many of today's concepts were thought of a long time ago, and some of the more advanced concepts dreamed up then still haven't been mastered yet, there's a lot of room for tactics to grow. All it takes is enough players to push the envelope.

I don't know about you but I had SST and PPT scripts back in the day when I used to BBS. there were also a few helpers you could download that had both red and blue scripts built in.

I believe you meant to say room for scripts to get faster. If you enjoy programming then I'm sure the game holds tons of stuff for you think about. Otherwise everything you need to know is taught to you and all you need to do is polish your newfound skills.

Yes but did you have world planet SST scripts, red scripts that could counter attack, etc? There's a whole world of concepts you haven't explored.

Not at all. There's a great many tactics that have never been fully explored. True some of them take a script (or a good macro) to work correctly, but there's still a lot of ground to cover.

Just the other day; someone was clearing mines in their grid, so I foton'd under there fig, popped a planet, deployed 100 limps, landed and set a script to wait for that person to clear the mines at my TA, sure enough, that person died while performing 100 Exit Enters, and lost his planet.

Think I'll call that tactic: Pop Goes PHead

lol, just exactly what are you guys planning on doing, creating a "tactic" out of every little thing you do within the game? "Well, what I did was purchased 25 fully loaded offensive ships and positioned them along the main grid along with a couple limpets and then I just posted watch over Terra, then once I received a limpit trip I xported and SD'ed them! ...I will call it the "Picard Maneuver" or the “Xport - Al La Mo”. I am a TW God (or Godess) ~ lolololol" Y’all are seriously funny with some of the stuff you cook up about this game.

But it is the funny stuff that makes it interesting - and makes a lot of players #SD#.

ROFL. Yea, stake-out techniques are fun. Can take forever for them to happen tho. If he adapts his script to look for planets (did that w/ mine) just hide on the port instead. Assuming ISPs of course. Exit-enter clear scripts of all sorts need to check for problems as they exit-enter, getting cannon blast amounts, sector changes, shiptype changes, etc. Most go for speed instead and find themselves dead. I'm guessing he didn't have his planet sector blast set correctly and you just exit/callsaveme'd?

I did something similar with a plocker. Wrote one to trigger off multiple sequential limpet hits, lol, instead of just a fighit or a single limp hit. Less risk since you're not hiding in the sector waiting for him, no cannon blast exposure and it's usually faster than an exit-enter callsaveme.

Just because you never could come up with anything don't rag on those that do.

Hehehe. Also what sharpens your thought process.

lol, watch your tongue for you know not what you say Sing. I have many ideas for this game. Just read many of my prior posts under RexxCrow as a few examples. I have many more that I am keeping secret which are script related. I am not bothering to take the time to write scripts currently because I feel it would be a wasted effort of about 6+ months of brain busting work. See I am holding out for a version of TW that will repair all of these breeches currently existing within the game, I figure the majority of all scripts will no longer function correctly within a game of TW that is not so utterly bug dependent. Though it appears as if JP is never going to release such a version of the game. So I will more appropriately bid my time with more meaningful projects at any rate... at least I am actually productive. At least I am capable of facing reality head on, rather then hiding myself within an old BBS game and wishing for the best. But think what you will, the condition of the TW community and forum speaks for itself.

Your kidding right? im mean you don't really believe that any bug fixes to the game will make any scripts unusable? or if by some chance a prompt is out of place its not as if the authers of any script couldnt correct them? thats a riddicules statement on your part. And i hope no one actually believes that . And Bug dependent?? Please there are no scipts that are bug dependent that are used in todays game.

Though it appears as if JP is never going to release such a version of the game. At least I am capable of facing reality head on, rather then hiding myself within an old BBS game and wishing for the best. But think what you will, the condition of the TW community and forum speaks for itself. maybe you should use your time either playing the fine game of tradewars so that you can learn what scripts are really used or how to play in general. Instead of posting some nonsense about how scripts that are used are bug dependent. Now lets just Suppose for a second your right and JP does come out with some type of update that does change the game And most todays scripts are useless....Who is going to be hurt by that? The Scripters who can edit thier work and fix thier scripts within minutes Or the Non Scripter usually someone newer to the game who is dependant on Grimey Script bank?? All you do by changing the game is hurt the newer or non script writing players.... Luckily that will NEVER happen
