Not sure what to say...But others need to know..
Orginally posted on Grimy's forum... I took on myself to repost it here, because I didn't see it here. Posted by Flithy Maggort... Quote: This is an 'FYI' for anyone who has known a Trade Wars player and icon that, for the past few years, goes by the name of bob. bob passed away at the young age of 51 on April 1, 2008 of yet unknown causes. wow... hard to fathom... I just talked to him a few days ago... bob will be missed. He was not only my regular corpie, he was my friend. Much of what I learned in Trade Wars is because of his efforts to make me a better player. Yes, he pushed the limits of the game. If there was a loophole in the rules, he'd find it and use it. And although many of you may not agree with me, he never cheated. I've been his corpie for well over two years on a very regular basis... This game and the entire TW community is a better place for having him around as long as we did. Most of the time he'd use an alias, but we all knew who he was, as his game play was unmistakable. I can only hope to be half the TW player he was.
I now give a farwell salute to one my most trusted corpies, dear friend, and one of the most knowlegable players this game will ever know. He SD'd many of the "elite", taught many a newbie, and should forever be remembered as one of the most colorful players to grace the TW world...
Bye bob, you will be sorely missed... I agree Bob was a good player... and the limits he pushed rules, or a truce could be questioned, I did enjoy the games played against him. I also agree he will be missed, and I am sorry to hear this news... any TW player should be missed, weather u hated them or loved them or could care less... But most of us... Hate Love and/ or Respect... a player can fall into both..

Regardless, bob will be missed...

Wow. My only encounter w/ him directly was in a subzero game w/ no death delay. I fired up a CBY casher and deposited off to a corpie. He spent the rest of the day complaining of our "cheating" as we broke down his base door.
Didn't he used to go by "rames" at one point?

Going on just a hunch, my understanding is that Bob was over 50 (don't know actually), and it appears that it was sudden. Usually that means stroke, heart attack, or accident. I don't know anything about Bob's history so I am just guessing.

Re: Not sure what to say...But others need to know..
I've Cropd with Ron (and Filth), steady for almost 2yrs. The three of us had alot of fun. Every game was about Fun and, if possible, a little drama mixed in. Though I never met Ron in preson I considered him to be a close friend. A large part of me cannot accept that he's gone. That guy on the other end, with the ironic humour and brutal honesty... he didn't spare me or I imagine Filthy. I accepted it as constructive critisim. heh. Fist game I met Ron, he was using the alias: Chicken Lips, everyone in the game banned together 'to get him' ...he and his corpie were relentless agaisnt us noobs. From then on we hit it off. He helped me and more new players than I can imagine. Ron has taught me alot about the game just by sitting back and letting me do stuff. He'd offer his 'critisim' and I'd try hard not to get SD within 30mins after a Truce ended. I'd try even harder to not get him SD'd in a citkill-war. That's how he usually got SD'd.. because I was botting him. For anyone who is interested: OBIT[EDIT] Thanks to Lucane for the Link

I played in several games w/ bob. He had a great way of smack-talk baiting newbs (like me) into either corping with him or crushing them..then showing ya how you made it easy for him.
His play was relentless, and he really showed me how to use every public script worth using. I'm really sorry to hear of his passing, as I could've still learned some more from him...

Very sorry to hear about this.. Bob was a very tenacious and creative player, especially when he didn't let his temper get the best of him. He was always fun to play against, and I was hoping to corp with him before I ended up getting too busy to play.
Condolences to his family and friends.

Re: Not sure what to say...But others need to know..
First, thanks to all of you who cared enough to post your comments about bob. Here is an update as to exactly what happened:
bob, (Ron Rames) died on Monday, March 31st, 2008 (sitting at his computer...) of several health related issues including, enlarged heart and hardening of the arteries secondary to diabetes, all of which led to a heart attack. As best as we can tell, I was the last person to actually talk to him (over yahoo IM). Nothing special, just discussing a game (as we often did). He was his normal, brash-self at that time (prolly the way he'd prefer to be remembered anyway).
Again, thank you all for your kind words, bob will indeed be missed...

I played a few games against him, not sure if I ever got to corp with him... But my best memories of him is as an Enemy that wouldn't give up and was quite good at what he did... I enjoyed those games, and Ron... You will be missed...

Re: Not sure what to say...But others need to know..
For anyone who might be interested, Sage is gonna put together a game in honor of bob on UTW. Don't have the bang date yet, but I got him to wait a bit so I could hopefully promote it a little. Be nice if we could get as many as possible to play. I'm sure it will be an unlim turns/time game and a short truce (prolly 2-day or so), with classic UTW edits. I asked Sage to NOT put any alien planets in the game, in hopes that it will last longer than 2 hours after the truce. bob loved this type of game, so ya'll come over and play, huh? No matter the outcome of the game, I'm sure there'll be plenty of time to talk about our run-ins with bob... Should be fun... Keep a look out for the game post, and hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Re: Not sure what to say...But others need to know..
One last note on bob... I received an email from his mom and wanted to pass it along...
- I am the Mom of Ron Ames that you all knew as Bob. as well as other aliases - A friend passed along to me all the kind and wonderful comments some of the players have made concerning my son. I tried to post a reply on your Trade Wars site and found out I have to be registered and have a password - so I happened upon your post also. Ron did pass away suddenly of a heart attack on either Sunday or Monday. We are not sure which. He was found by a co worker on April 1 on the floor. FM was correct in his post of April 5. He was 51 years of age. I just wanted to say Thank You to all of you for your kind words. Myself and the rest of our family is torn up over his death. We don't believe he even knew he had a bad heart. The last time we were together was Easter Sunday and he was his normal ,happy self. I wish I had one last chance to tell him good bye and get one of his big hugs. Remember him the way you knew him - he enoyed his games. Shirley - sad Mom

Re: Not sure what to say...But others need to know..
God bless him. He was the person who took me under his wing and got me back into the game updated me on the new tactics and took time out of his busy schedule to listen to my annoying noob questions. Ive always respected him for the fact he could drop his "skilled" mindset and give all us noobs a chance. He also kept me plenty entertained with his "elite" smacktalk and his great choices of alias's!:P He will be missed, may all his close friends and family have my prayers!
