Site I miss the most is Darkstarbase. I played a lot there before he shut down.
Honorable mentions would go to Alienbase.
I used to play on the old BBS sites but don't remember their names now, but it would have been local to the Battle Creek, MI. or Big Rapids, MI. areas. I couldn't afford the long distance charges to connect to other sites.

IF i had to just pick 3 it'd have to be the ones that got be started.
1) eclipse bbs [circa 1995 this is where i first met a lot of people, kavanagh, zep, hoot owl, vid kid, space ghost, and several others]
2) evolution bbs [jackal and his crew, white knight, thebest, bad girl, many others]
2a) [edited to add frogland it was an imporant early bbs too! ]

and of course one of my favorites was coastgames. Jerry was one of the best ops you'd ever want. And being the packrat i am [emailwise] look what i still have in my archives:

Hello to all users at Coastgames.com.

It has been a great pleasure being a sysop for many years. But after 4 years it saddens me to say that coastgames.com is shutting down. I no longer have the desire or ambition to run a tradewars server and if I keep it going the way it is I will only anger people and make myself feel worse due to not being able to dedicate myself to it..

Effective immediately all games will be closed to new entries and the server will go down very shortly.

Thanks to all the support I have had for the past 4 years and thank you very much to The Reverend for stepping up and helping me when I needed it.

The web site and all its subdomain will stay up. The coastgames.com domain is not ending just the tradewars part of it.

Probably nobody has ever heard of it, but I learned to play the game back in the early 90's on 'The Dark Tower BBS' in Minnesota and really enjoyed playing there.

I've heard of it Use to route mail to that BBS and a few others back in the days.

I used to play on Frogland. First met Father Cajone there. Probably a few others. Wish I could remember the BBS I played on where I met Silver Dragon. That was when we both found the EIS community and moved up. That was a long time ago. I also miss Cherokee's server and Alien Base too.

Oh yes i loved frogland bbs. That was one of the first boards [maybe the first] i ever saw to have 10,000 turn games. This is where i first met OTD/steel magnolia as well as FC and probably quite a few others.

I don't remember exactly when this bbs started but it was in 1995 or 1996 i spose, i remember luke skywalker got on eclipse bbs to let people know it was opening up.

I think this is the bbs where i met sir lancelot to [he bs'd me haha but he was a newb].

I miss stardock the most i guess. That was always where i knew there were games, and if you wanted to play the best of the best, that's where you went.

This wasn't a TWGS, but Crowsnest BBS in Jax, Florida.... I miss them more than anything because that is where i first learned about BBSs, learned to play tradewars, and made a number of my first online friends.

I do find it kinda funny that to this day, I still have one of Stardocks old MB and Processor sets and it was running my bbs server until 2 months ago.

Anyways...

What I missed the most was my local Worldgroup board that got me started on Trade Wars in the first place in the mid 90's. Back then, we all used dial up and we all were local to each other. There would be like 50 of us playing which is not bad for a local set up. Some of us would meet in person to go over game strategy. That was fun and I missed those days. I wish I could go back to the days of local game play and I'm sure y'all do as well.
