So EIS gets a server, it's not JP admining it... years later a split between that admin and JP happens. Then what? The admin starts a new forum somewhere else and takes his server to go play while EIS rebuilds? Doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result is a classical definition for insanity.

That's an insulting statement. One case does not make a pattern.

Except there's been more than one case, hasn't there? Over the years the community has split multiple times, each time getting smaller and smaller. I can count 3 times in just the last few years I've been actively playing.

Funny thing is, most of the ppl involved in these things don't even play... for those of us that do, it gets harder and harder to find competitive games. It's to the point now where it's not worth the effort, and it will take a year or more to build back to a usable level. I'd hate to see that time squandered by yet another split.

So if ya'll are going to make an official server... please do us all a favor and iron out the ownership situation in writing.

I would be willing to help with it if asked. I have zero interest in playing, so there's no conflict there. The big issue for me is where would it be hosted?

just dont want people to think you volunteered and no one noticed...As per your post and our subsequent conversation.,.If and when EIS is determined to have a "Official" Server you would be at the Top of an extremly small list.

sure i think an official server would be cool, but like others, i don't want it to be just anyone who volunteered to run the 'official' server out of his basement. imo, an official server should be run by jp on a fat pipe and nothing less. no offense to anyone who has volunteered... hell i would volunteer except that i don't think branding thereverend.org as official eis is worth anything.

You're right, in a perfect world, JP would run it. But we all know how that situation is. There's a better chance of Res becoming a good citizen.

Any "official" server would be run on a Commercially Hosted Server. JP is *NOT* intrested in the day to day running of a TWGS server. The Last Thing he needs is some Joe claiming he is cheating or duping etc etc etc JP doesnt have time for it and isnt intrested in it. However he is willing to put up the funds for a commercially Hosted server that WOULD be Also used for Beta testing as well as Regular games and Tournaments.

yeah a commercially hosted server would be cool for sure. on one hand i understand that jp doesn't have time to host a server; neither do i. on the other, it begs the question, "how much better would the game be if he actually took the time to a) host a server and b) play the game?"

You're not supposed to ask those questions.

The question I have is how would this server differ from any other server other than the brand "Official Server" and the fact that JP would pay for it? There are a lot of fast, reliable servers out there that provide tourney games, training games, regular games, and even testing games and are paid for out of personal funds every day.

I dont think it would differ...Doesnt seem to me that its even possible to differ,,It's the Same Game Hosted by A Commercial Host paid for by the developer.....Just another Free place to play I guess..Ofcourse I hope that its only a spring board and that it becomes a popular server To grow the Game's Popularity. Maybe I'm actually asking the Wrong Question...Maybe the Question should be Why Shouldn't EIS have an "Official" Server Hosted Commercialy For both Regular Games and Beta Testing and Tournaments.???

While it sounds like a good idea in theory, I think really it should be limited to officially sponsored tournaments, and limited beta releases. Right now, I think there may be more TWGSs than the community can be supported, and unless an official EIS server could offer something different, I am not sure that I would see it as a huge benefit for regular games.

which further begs the question, "why do we even put up with vader? he can't even keep his own domain registered."

/me double-checks thereverend.org domain registration
