Unread post UTW rules...
First of all I would have posted this on UTW forums but for some reason I can't get my password to work to login so here goes. I recently was pulled into a game at UTW and the other corp blew dock. Well I told the player that did this about the rules (which at that point I was new to seeing I try not to play on this server). Well he said that wasn't the rules and he was going to do it anyways. Even after I copy and pasted the rules on comm he said I'm still blowing dock. Well I made a complaint to Sage at the email that UTW posts to send complaints to, not to get the other player in trouble but to find out if I'm on crack and can't read or what. Well I never heard back from Sage or from UTW rep so fine. So now I've entered another game there (same one) and other corp is blowing dock daily (I was pulled back into this one as well to help a corpie out even though I know better). Seeing that I have had no luck with a response from UTW I will post a bit of the posted rules and I would appreciate a response on how everyone else sees these rules.

General Rules

These rules are in addition to the rules of the particular game you are playing. Look below for additional rules.

GENERAL RULES

NO DUPES: We occasionally allow connections from the same IP for exceptional circumstances, such as military facilities, and home networks, however these may be subject to voice verification. Please don't ruin it for others.

NO BLATANT SWEARING: Some light words are okay, just don't get excessive. We'd like to provide and keep a family atmosphere. This does not apply to elite or advanced games though, so let the player beware.

NO RACIAL SLURS

NO BLOCKADING STARDOCK OR CLASS 0 PORTS: Denying players access to Stardock or Class 0 ports is not permitted. Destroying these ports is considered the same as blockading and not permitted.

NO SHIP BUYOUT'S are permitted.

NO PLANET BUYOUT'S are permitted.

Again this is only a portion of the posted rules... So I guess with no response and/or action taken during the game that its safe to say that the complaints on these forums about UTW have some truth at least?

Sorry for the long post but want some feedback if possible, and yes I know, If you don't like it don't play there (which I probably won't again but didn't want to leave a good corpie out to dry). Thanks again!!

Oh one thing I found funny though. After I sent the email to UTW all of the sudden I'm back on the mailing list that I asked to be removed from in the past so I know I sent it to the right email.

Sage runs a great server and is one of the most hard working sysops ive ever encountered. Do your self a favor pat and Stop trying to tell any particualr trader what the "RULES" are..sure you can be nice and try to to tell them but after that leave them alone and let the sysop deal with it...
Give the sysop a Chance to deal with the issue..Be persistant..Don't just assume the Sysop there is doing nothing.Dont just assume the Sysop has recieved your complaint and is ignoring you..Also please note there are "SOME" games on UTW that have no rules and the general rules are discarded. Also you should definatly post this type of thing on UTW forums..cant get your password to work there? Then start a new account and post it there. Last thing if you still believe you are getting an unfair deal.or believe that others can violate rules and you cant...Then Vote with your FEET. Over all i think you will find that SAGE is a good sysop and UTW is a great place to play,,,Remeber ..It's not easy to make people go by the rules...even less easy to please everyone.

Laff, except it's well known that their crew tends to ignore complaints from outside the clique, esp if it's about someone that's inside it... =)

Long story short, always expect 2 rule sets when playing there. The rules you'll have to play by... which is pretty much everything on the list, and then the rules they'll play by, which is an exemption to said rules.

Add MTW to the servers with 2 sets of rules, at least for their truce games. Data has gone the way of Sage, enforcing the rules only when it suits him or the players he favors.

c'mon..any truce game, by definition, is a potential powder-keg if competitive peeps are in it..

It's a game where each player/corp is trying to push the rules to gain an edge, this leads to violations of one type or another...

Play in a truce at yer own risk, relying on the sysop to help you out is a recipe for misery.

Best way of getting hold of Sage -esp leaving a msg- is ICQ

[EDIT]
Some games have exception to the General Rules.. these are usually mentioned in the Bang Notice.. So, you're prob not on Crack, but maybe a bit of the Gonga

Thanks SG for the input. I thought I was doing them a favor by informing them of the rules (at least as I read them) and not going straight to Sage. As far as assuming anything... I've waited over two weeks for a response (that game has banged and should be bangin again any day. I would say thats not assuming. Thats just proof in the pudding. Also I did try re-registering and it kept giving me error msgs for each email addy I inputted. Lonestar I did try to find his ICQ but couldn't find it. I asked around and the group of people I talk to apparently has no use for it since they didn't have it. I almost posted on here for it but thought that might be inappropriate since he didn't offer it in his profile here. And as far as the two set of rules... it seemed like this person in the first game could care less of rules or consequences for breaking those rules so maybe that is the case. I try to give any server a chance and certainly appreciate what the hosts of those servers do for the community but yea I do get upset just like anyone else when I put time into a game and then some jackass decides they can't win within the rules. Anyways all I was looking for was another set of eyes on those rules to make sure I understood them. Thanks to all that have commented!

One last thing... As far as people voting with their feet... I imagine some people do, they walk right out of the game all together...

wow thats a pretty wild series there....hard to imagine having such a hard time signing up again at thier forum...several email adress's didnt work? WOW thats extremely unusual. They have new registered users all the timeat that forum..Wonder why you are having such an issue despite different emaill address's... As for Sage's icq i'd be happy to give it to you i dont believe he would mind one bit. Did you think that MAYBE since your unable to register for the fourm that maybe your email didnt make it either? It just seems very coincidental that you tried to sign up for his forum several times with several email address's and at the same time you have been unable to reach him by email...I'll send u a pm here with his icq. One last point...Voting with your Feet means find a TW Game and server that you like and trust..Silly to keep playing somewhere that you believe is unjust...not leaving TW in general.

SG,

You post seems to just be making excuses for what is just the SOP at UTW. Anyone who has ever played there knows it. If you are on the inside, you get help, if are on the outside you get nothing.

I thought the same thing about not being able to register again (very odd). I'm pretty sure my email made it seeing that i was not on the mailing list before I sent the email then shortly after I made it onto their mailing list. Either way I will vote with my feet and not return to that server.

I haven't ran into too many issues on UTW of late, but then my response to someone who violates a truce is to SD them if I can. SD them and their corp if possible then CBY out - just there to kill anyway and the truce just makes me wait on those that follow it. So in effect, I like the truce breakers because I really don't want to sit around for days waiting. I don't worry about the sysOp taking care of it because they are usually away with real life, and for them to have to babysit a game is insane.

I know this isn't the "right" way some would like to see their truce breaking handled. They want to disrupt cashing of the reds and outright attacks to get an advantage for their corp. At least I can try and give others what the truce breaker was trying to get by eliminating them from the game. It is also funny how they cry (the truce breaker and their corp) when someone else decides to play against them the same way.
