Crunch well my thought process is to see if the public wants an "official" server then pending if people want that..There would have to be a search for the right Game op to run it. I would rather not do it (as i would like to play) as for who exactly is EIS EIS is JP but we are talking about him procuring a server and letting someone else run it..IF there is intrest...If there is no Intrest in an " Official " server no big deal we move on. As for Beta testing or Game play or Torunament play..I can see it doing all three at different times...For instance right now we are waiting on a beta that is probably 4-5 months away..so we could use it for regular game play OR tournament play. This is only an Idea and if people aren't in favor of it ..Well it probably won't happen unless there is great intrest.

Re: Should EIS open an "Official" Server ???
I can give you three names to run a server:
River Rat Vader Eleq
Giving names is easier than getting them to do it, but all three seem respected by most of the longer term players.

Re: Should EIS open an "Official" Server ???
I think an "official" server would be good. As some have said for Beta testing and *maybe* a tournament server. That would come in handy when the sysops want to play. As for general games, Idk there is alot of servers out there and some good ones too. I would think EIS would have to offer up something good for players to play, maybe a beer party or something.

Re: Should EIS open an "Official" Server ???
"Official" or not, it would be good to have another fast server that bangs good games on a regular basis that could help bring the community back together in-game. But if it bangs too many of any game time, is too slow or ran by someone that doesn't care for it... you're only going to lose more players. Done well tho, sure.

BUT let the Search begin! I count 4 in favor of a beta/test server, 4 in favor of a regular server, 2 in favor of no server and 2 abstentions. Considering that there are over 4000 members do you consider 12 votes significant? If you do, you need to see a doc. If your mind is made up SG and you are just looking for official co-signers for this decision, then carry on. On the other hand if you truly want to see if there is member interest in EIS hosting a server then put up a poll and wait 3 months or so to gather enough responses. Cerne

Re: Should EIS open an "Official" Server ???
I agree with Cerne. If EIS wants to know "should they" run an "official server", then they need to do two things. Either run it without asking us, or ask us and then decide based on ALL of the input gathered. Can't make a decision based on the local few that post their opinions. Put up a poll, wait as Cerne suggested. Maybe some new people here would like to have input.
I get that "dejavu" feeling again ...

I get that "dejavu" feeling again ... Asking if there is intrest in putting up a server should take 3-4 months???? Wow...OK well just so you and Cerne know..There are no polls in this forum design otherwise i would of put up a POLL..But hey if you guys want to wait 3-4 months...So be it....No sweat off my tail..So after 3-4 months and this thread is long lost and buried I'll dig it up and retrieve it..Ans see How many MORE people would like to have input.

I was not disagreeing either with the idea. All I said was give it some time. Not wait for 3 or 4 months, but a few weeks perhaps. Don't make a decision based on the views of just the popular people, but give some new people a chance to maybe have some input. Plan it out carefully and set the goals that the server will take. Some people have specified tournaments; what about the views of new players? If this is a community, then the community should have the right to voice their thoughts, regardless if some think the idea is not good.
