In something like 10 days my domain name registration expires.  I'm trying to transfer the registration to another company, but I'm having issues.  They say it's not transferable.
I might have to let it expire, then re-register with the new company.  Not sure exactly how this all works yet.
Anyway for those of you using telnet:\\runawayproton.com:23 to log into bote you might want to change it to my direct address of telnet:\\76.194.193.30:23 so you will have no interuptions.
Wow, it's been a year since I brought up my primative website?  Time flies!

Dunno misb, file looks corrupt. Msg me and send me the fixed one and I'll see what I can do. Prolly happened when I transferred servers.

RP, domains don't work like that bud. If you drop the domain it stays in redemption for some 60 days, then the company has a shot at buying it (and they usually do, there's a huge market for expired domains) and then it goes on the open market where anyone can snipe it. Only after all that, months and months, hundreds of dollars later, will you have a shot at picking it back up... assuming nobody else has.

You cannot transfer a domain within 1 week of it expiring, ICANN rules. To transfer a domain... You first have to unlock the domain w/ the current registrar. Then you need to get the xfer code. Then you start the transfer process, authorize it (usually via an email delivered to the name on file), then provide the xfer code. Afew days later it's usually xferred, with some exceptions. Process normally costs about the same as a regular registration.

Some registrars are evil to work with, Godaddy for instance won't let you xfer a domain for 60 days after you update your contact information in an effort to keep you from transferring out... they found the #1 reason people update their contact info is so that the auth notice goes to a better email addy. Hate those guys so much.

Well I guess I got lucky.  I did start the transfer prior to it's expiring, but it expired mid process.  All went well though, and it got done.
My new telnet address had to go different than it did previously though.  Had to assign a subdomain to make it work. my domain points to the website, and the new telnet adderess is telnet://telnet.runawayproton.com:23

Cool. Yes, if you start the process before the domain expires it will continue going thru. That's to prevent registrars from delaying the process in order to force you to renew.

Just noticed this was an old post, laff... ah well, good to know it went alright.
