I am certain that if it were open source, it would bring more sysops and players.
The game would be easier to update and customize to each person's liking.

It would be easier to customize, but at the same time that would bring up a lot of little versions with a lot of little bugs too... which might be confusing.

Well, we can have open source, and hope the main coders might work together. But the spinnoff versions can come up with unique ideas as well. Would only further the game for us.

Hijack? What was this thread about again? Sorry Vulcan, but you're right. Maybe OSO can split this off for us.

The only way to stop dupes is to run a closed game and hand out usernames to people.
Ahh... the dream of a next version. I wish. Think we could pressure for it by pledging some bank?

I was having a slow uptake kind of day
Let me see. If I sell my children to factories in asia I could buy it
I was thinking the other direction. JP wants to own the thing, fine. How much bank would it take to have him shift priorities about and get us a new version? I suspect that it would be a much smaller number than to buy the rights. I would cough up cash for a new set of reg codes if it got me a new version, would yall?

It would probly take more "bank" than we're willing to pay collectivly. I understand what you say about the codes, but I don't think 200 new sets of codes will make it worth his while. I'm not even sure there are 200 that would buy them to be honest. How many active sites are there right now?

For each active site there is at least one if not three that are paid but offline. Some still as pipe dreams, others waiting for an IP, some run as friends playing closed games.
If the new version adds flexability for sysops to tweak mechanics more completely, at least when fully registered, that would gain a fair number of people. I would guess that there would be fifty who would pony up in the first months of release and at least that in the next six months after. Maybe another hundred more over the next six. I have seen the same thing in MUDs, once a major upgrade goes in on the codebase, the users come back to check out the new stuff. Even if you only get 200 people in the first year, at the rate reg codes can go for that signifigantly changes someones income. That is before you add in residual income on subsequent years without any new coding.
The real question is: What does JP want per copy of the new version to make it worth his time.

Sigh... milton, you just went thru all of your messages and edited them out to a dot... killing your entire conversation.
That's pretty weak dude, it makes it impossible for future searchers to get anything out of it. Self-centered lameness to a whole new degree.
Too bad I can't remove a person's edit capability. I wonder if there are any admins that would be willing to tho. Any takers?
