Well pod flee is a bit buggy. But I still think the xport ship list is a bigger bug that needs fixed. Imagine how many servers would run smoothly if they didn't have to crunch a hundred BFSes per SST.

A new release for TWv3 is on the way, mostly to activate Jumpgate in TWGS. But while I'm at it, I'd like to take a look at any major bugs in the game today. I'll need some decent details about the bugs and how to recreate them.

Looks to be real close to about a year now since that statement was made. Also appears that we're well beyond the two year mark since the last public release was made.

I have to ask, is there any real progress going on? I see a -lot- of posts asking about ETAs and release dates and I quite often find it to be the case that there is no explicit answer given, not even a crude estimate. That, in and of itself, worries me.

My server is private, nobody plays there anymore, but I now and then find myself visiting this forum in the hopes that something new has cropped up, some new bug fixes have been released and so forth.

It's quite a disappointment that this far along, there's still no tangible progress towards a less buggy product. I see that there are people discussing beta version this and that, behind the scenes, not publicly released, and that's all good and well, but to the average end user, all that one sees is a two and a half year gap from the last public release and a nearly one-year old call for bugs to reported, with no fixes yet released.

I realize some people think that those of us in my position have no right to complain, and they're entitled to their opinion, but I respectfully disagree. I have done my part, made my financial contribution to the development of this software, reported bugs even, and that's all a person like me, and end user can realistically be expected to do.

Please understand, I'm not saying JP should be forced to develop until every bug is worked out. I'm not saying it should be done right this second either.

All I'm saying is that if one purports to be working on fixing bugs or putting out new releases and features, there should be some tangible evidence of that after a reasonable amount of time. Tangible evidence does not mean beta versions run by a handful of people behind the scenes, I'm talking tangible to the average end user, to people like me. A reasonable amount of time would be less than two and a half years from the last release, and it would be less than a year after the public call for known bugs to be reported.

Of course that last bit, indeed this whole mess of a posting, is open to interpretation, but that's my $.02 on the matter. I hope I've not offended anyone with this, because that wasn't my purpose. I'm just throwing out my personal opinion on the matter and how I feel at this point as an end user of the product. I don't mind (and am fully cognizant of the fact) that some people are going to agree, some are going to disagree, and others will outright flame me over what is written here. Please just be civil about it, or at least as civil as I've tried to keep this posting.

My TWGS runs on windows XP but I have a test server running under Windows Vista. Everything seems to run ok under vista but my last game after doing some edits on the test server when I moved the game folder to the real server many of the edits vanished including Planets, Ships, Ships that were deleted reappeared. Also sector edits seemed to work because when I went to the sector in tedit on the real server it was correct and when I went to the sector within the game it was correct but the game set courses as if the sectors were not joined or avoided. Unfortunately vista is a reality and you may want to look in to this

Gateway, we have been testing the Jumpgate TWGS, and my TWGS is one of them, we found some major issues on it and reverted most of it almost to the old TWGS to see if some of the instability can be found, and fixed, soon as new developments come out I will let all know, but if it can't be fixed soon, I will go completely back to the old TWGS and wait till we get a new test TWGS to try out.

Just be patient, we are working on it. Hopefully it will come out soon.

I appreciate the response and the info, but this goes back directly to what I was saying and, quite frankly, this news is a bit disappointing (in more ways than one).

As an aside, the notion that people should 'be patient' after nearly two and a half years, not to mention a year since the call for bugs, it just sounds kind of silly. Not trying to be aloof or anything, that's just how it feels to me. I'm not trying to speak for anyone else though.

Thanks in any case for the update, it is appreciated.

The bugs we found on the beta testing were new ones that came with the jumpgate, but we are trying to get them categorized and repaired as soon as possible. Sometimes things do take a while, the call to bugs, was for what needed to be fixed in the current model of the TWGS. We are working on entirely new ones now, and I think most of the original bugs are fixed now in the beta release, I know all get tired of hearing be patient and it will be a while, but sometimes things like that do happen, I have been a beta tester for many apps and programs, I am also currently beta testing the new TWT (Trade Wars Tournament) a graphical version of TW. Things are coming along okay there.

If that's the case then there's not much to be done besides waiting. Having my server completely private and being used as nothing but a playground for me when I get bored, that's fine by me.

Personally though, I wonder why the fixes for the bugs reported in this thread, if they are purportedly already finished, can't be released separately from the Jumpgate implementation. Some people may not care one way or the other about jumpgate, but would surely appreciate the fixes for the bugs reported here. Just a suggestion for those in control of such things.

Thanks again for the response.

One bug , that was brought to light again .. in tournament mode ....

Death limits .. I thought that this one was fixed .. but with some help and testing tourns out it wasn't fixed.

Same for podless ships .. they too can be captured.
For those oldtimers that recall .. remember .. scouts could not be captured .. and why .. cause they didnt have pods.

Well those are the 2 that I recall and figured to bring to light again.
