If you don't DL new software you won't be able to play competitively... or perhaps at all. TW term is obsolete.
What you need is Swath or Zoc as a front end stacked on top of twx proxy. Someone with that combination will rip TW term to shreds.

Well I dont know your situation Maxx but I suspect your Inet acces is thru a terminal where you cant install software. So if that is the case as soon as I can get a copy of TW Term from filerat.com or one of the bbs's ill take a look at it for you. However since its a telnet interface their should be a spot in the menu that will bring up Connection Info and that is where you what to put in the telnet addy for the server(ex. telnet://darkstarbase.no-ip.org) and port 23 which it may ask you for or default too.Login is self explainitory once you get to the first screen.Tw Tern is not compatiable with Gold settings if memory serves(fades with old age) so you will want to stick to games with a 5k sector limit or less. There are many to play so its not a worry.I get back to you when/if I can dig up a copy.

It's been a long time since i use twterm, but if i remember correctly it is a dos based program that dials up to connect and play. I don't think it supports telnet without hooking to a virtual modem
you can get zoc at grimytrader, it is shareware and will work without regging it. With it and revhelper you should be ok. You can also use both zoc and revhelper with twxproxy and have all the tools you need to get back into tradewars for free. Grimytrader also has alot of twxproxy scripts that are free you can download and use

Kav, I can't remember the last time you even left stardock .
TW term is obsolete. It doesn't give you what you need to succeed. It's making the task of learning modern play much more difficult than it has to be.
I suggest finding a way to install software. You want to learn to play today's TW w/o new software. I contend it isn't possible and as always, if you want to play a game to test that theory... I'm more than willing to comply =).

That was my intent, but dragging the memory, I think that there was another app needed in addition to comip. Turbo something. One was needed to telnet, the other for the likes of twterm.

Anyone remember how to redirect internal traffic using a batch file?

Oh god no! My tandy 1000 couldn't handle a 14400 baud modem, and I couldn't afford the 300 dollar 8 meg memory upgrade.
Back then I had to play on someone elses computer.

Thanks bro, I forgot the turbocom designation!
I believe you are correct re XP, might even go back to W98. Things went flakey after DOS 6.22 and I dont remember if that was late W95 or 98.
MAXX:
you might try dosbox, an emulator of ye olde msdos, with comip and turbocom.

But dosbox would be installing more software. Exactly WHY would you install an emulator when better, more accurate software exists? I mean if you're going to be installing software then give yourself the best odds you can.
Is the goal here just to make your life as hard as you possibly can or is there some other reason for choosing software that's over 10 years out of date? Just for that "retro feel" ...?
And wouldn't comip and turbocom also count as additional software? Stuff he doesn't want to download?
My point being... this is all an enormous workaround that involves doing exactly what you didn't want to do... download and install new software.
You want to play TW with absolutely no new software? Well you're going to have to find some old dial-up BBSes (there are a few) and hope they have TW. Because that's what you're limited to.
