Heh, you got more than what you gave bro, face it.
But if this is to continue, it should be in SG's domain.

Traitor wrote: What has always surprised me is *how many* kills I've gotten with scripts. I mean. Come on people. Show some imagination. The fact that I can kill with a script, which can't react, can't change, can't adjust, can't learn, can't predict, and just sits there and does the same Darn thing over and over makes me sick.
TW is changed. I feel it in the grid. I see it in the bubbles. I smell it in the photon ozone. Much that once was is lost, for none now play who remember it. It began with the forging of the Great Scripts. Three were given to Pheonix Rising, immortal, wisest and fairest of all permas. Seven to Damage Unlimited, great scripters and craftsmen of the Stardock halls. And nine, nine scripts were gifted to the Space Tyrants, who, above all else, desire power. But they were, all of them, deceived, for another script was made. In The Cabal perma, in the fires of TWX Proxy, the Dark Lord Traitor forged in secret a master script, to control all others. And into this script he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all life.
One script to rule them all.
But there was a macro made long ago also which defeated this script once, and forced Traitor to retire (either the 2nd or 3rd time, I don't recall). However, when he was defeated, the macro was broken. Now, with the great script once again found, and rumors of old twarriors long gone roaming the stardock, it's time to reforge the macro once again.
I shall travel long and far to gather a Z and N and reforge the macro anew to do the ultimate battle with the great script.

Ok maybe I can be that geeky.
But hence, there once was a great wizard that banished the ever so powerful script and abolished the reborn macro with lightning and fire from his fingers. He was proclaimed the GOD of fat fingers and these evil creations were no more. This man is well known to many, but relates to so few. His knowledge of the code is relentless. He comprimises with no one, as he rules his domain. He is known as simply, J.P.

Thus is the nature of all competitive games and is what distinguishes games of skill from games of luck. Once you step back from unlimited games where the 24/7 economy of scripts is as inescapable as a blackhole, the advantage of scripting diminishes some. What this thread started with was a sysop thinking that making an antigrid game would make it antiscript, and thus more for the oldskool typists like himself. Many of the detractors focused on attacking his inability to script play and fight a grid. So what, it makes him lunch when he plays any other mod. Others focused on how noone would play it. True- because they don't know how to play without the grid working right. Think of it- where better to prove your skill than in an environment hostile to your style of play. Or is it that those detractors are themselves unwilling to try playing anything that differs from thier best environment?

If you are trading in a gridless universe, someone will hunt you down, sooner or later, using a cim hunter - and you won't even know they are coming because they will not be hitting fighters on the way in.

That wouldn't scare me as much as knowing an eprobe script would find my home sector in a matter of hours. A gridless universe would more or less take the term "builder" out of the equation. In a game with no grid, cloaking devices would certainly be very appealing.

One can always grid with banana peels as well, wink wink! Of course you will always be broke, but sometimes you have to take one for the team! Oh, watch that sector it is sooo slippery! Odyle Rulez, Odyle Rulez, Odyle Rulez!

Lol.
Be pretty easy to find people w/ probes in a gridless universe, yah. Ye be parkin in fedspace, matey.
But yea, unlims are more scripty than turns, no doubt. In a turns game you really only need scripts for stuff that's too complex for people to do (like data mining or list processing) or for stuff that's too fast for people to do (like torpin).
You could cash by hand if you wanted, could even haggle by hand if you're really into pain. Of course most people just run a casher script since it's easier, but w/o a solid understanding of how to SST or SDT... running ck sst/sdt will get you into fake bust trouble very quickly.

Well nobody
is proposing to ban Helpers and scripts altogether. No, I probably would not
want to haggle by hand, but I am not sure, at the time even that could have its
good side.
But I am
very glad to hear that JP is working on a new Version that will prohibit some
of the shortcoming trough extensive scripting, gridding and bot-playing.
My vision
is a Game that allows basic scripts like haggling, colonising and such chores,
but has inherent grid killers, ban all bots, make 24/7 impossible and ad –I hope-
some new variables.
Cool would
be a growing universe. A universe that changes subtly with time of the Game. With
real Dangers like Black holes, that move across the universe by chance.
With
intelligent Aliens and randomness at large.
Also if
each player or corp. would have to design their own ships and build them
somehow.
Ill try to
keep bots out through a time limit and maybe taking the server offline for a
few hours each day. etc
How does
that sound?

Taking the server offline doesn't sound good as you have people that can only play at certain times due to family, work, school or whatever real life throws at them.

But it would certainly mess up the bots In the old days our favorit Server (In Germany) was only online 15/24 hours, bacause of the expenses involved. And it was a great Server, with great players.
