Well, I was prepared to post that I would experience outages tommorrow while the phone company diagnosed my sudden drop problem.

Good News, They came a day early!
Bad News, They came a day early! I didnt have time post the outage. Sorry!

Good News, They didn't find anything wrong
Bad News, They didn't find anything wrong. We still dont' know the problems.

Well, I might have to try a new modem. More money out. No more money coming in.

If you continue to experience drops, please post on my forum, or here, and note time and date you noticed it.
This might help me find the root of this issue.

Proton,

You may want to try a monitoring tool, check DSLReports and other places for useful tools to watch your connection. Back when I had DSL (I use cable now) I had drops every few days. After many headaches and multiple tries with Earthlink and then with Speakeasy, I finally got a great Speakeasy tech who ran an in depth test on my phone line. It turned out I was only 9,000 ft from the CO on a map, but something like 28,000 physical line feet from it. This means the morons who setup my subdivision laid the cables like a coiled python. Speakeasy apologized and said that only the phone company could resolve the issue by upgrading my whole area. I checked with an acquaintance that worked at Ameritech at the time and he confirmed what I was being told.

Anyhow, you will get the standard "replace this" and "replace that" approaches until you really make a stink and force them to send out a tech with a laptop to really test the line.

Good luck, and by the way Comcast cable is costly, but man it is pretty solid (in the Chicago area anyway).

Thanks, I'll check out those tools. They did send a good tech, and he replaced my wire from the road to the house, said it wasnt bad, but registered a slight amount of static, also told me the difference of signal from inside the house or in the box outside was very minimal. I'm also very close the the CO as well, like 3 blocks. This tech was very helpful and I hovered over him every step to learn. His laptop was VERY cool!
They only offerd to send this tech after I mentioned cable modem. I got the direct number to maintenance now so if I have issues I can call then and there rather than the whole switchboard thing.
The tech was honest and told me that everything looked good to the modem, and that he couldnt' properly diagnose the modem its's self. I guess I need to try a new one and see what happens.

RP it could still be the modem, I had similar problems as well and diagnosed it to be the modem, I am on comcast, they said the modem doesn't cause that, and i said it has to, cause I have changed everything else, and for them not to tell me it was the router or other things, cause I had already changed it all, to make a long story short, I bought the modem, and problem solved. laff.

They're all still modems, DSL modem, Cable modem, or Dial-up modem.
