 An Algorithm for a Bubble Figger

One of the things I could use the most but do not have is a script to fig/mine drop a big Butt bubble.  Here is the algorithm I have now.

Get the list of sectors in a bubble (I use swath and I can get the sectors there)

:getQuickStats #pull the ship info from quickstats

:menu #menu system to choose options

:window #use a window to track progress and report unusual density

:getInput #Get console Input list of sectors to drop figs/mines in

:_densityScan #do a density scan before entering a sector

:holoScan  #do a holoscan for high densities

:anomoly #stop on anomoly (could be a menu choice)


:moveToSector #move into the sector

:_dropFig #drop figs (menu item for how many)

:_dropAramidMine #drop aramid mine (menu item for how many)

:_dropLimpetMine #drop limpet mine (menu item for how many)

:stop #halt


Any help on the algorithm would be greatly appreciated. What obvious thing(s) am I missing.

An opinion...
With respect to the sector list. Using a sector list will invariably cause you to burn a lot of turns Zigzagging to and fro. Alternatively, consider inputting just the Gate and the Deepest Sector sectors into your script and then based on a course between those two points, move towards the back of the bubble, branching off whenever necessary. Combined with Twarp this should greatly reduce turns and time required.

TWXproxy 2.04 final has a built in BFS w/ avoids. As an example I will be writing code that takes only the gate and finds the bubble and all sectors inside of it. The sectors will be queue'd by shortest distance first, so finding the deepest sector will be easy.

Large bubbles are pretty pointless in turns games since the time to develop them is more than you have. What I would do...

1. Find furthest unfigged/unmined/unwhatever'd sector.

2. Find nearest safe fig to that.

3. Twarp there, then safe mow (scanning, etc) to that point. When you're done, mark it off the list. If you can't reach it, log it and announce it on SS for further "what the heck do I do."

4. Twarp back to your base point. Refuel, go to dock and restock and scrub if needed.

5. Return back, repeat.

You could further reduce the amout of walking you need to do by checking the number of sectors you'd fill along the way, and instead of simply going to the most distant... you would start the search with the most distant and add up the number of sectors to do each path to the closest. Then travel the one w/ the most.

I assume you are playing a 20K probably unlim.

I recommend Solitaire or Minesweeper, they can be played without scripts.

And i thought i was the only one to play with a ti-83 plus silver connected to there computer.
gheeesh cant you guys just try and solve world hunger or something. All that brain power going to waste. : (

oh and sing, step 4 above, well man you shouldnt go to ur base untill after you washed your ship, you trying to get the noobies killed and invaded?

Base point isn't your base, it's a planet that's setup as a safe sector. That's the way all unlim gridding is done these days. The planet has a cannon set to keep people from coming in on you.

I am, however, assuming you are scanning as you go and not hitting limps except when neccessary and smart, I mean unless you just want to die. You should, of course, avoid enemy figs while running this routine.

I never play unlimited games anymore, but I do play some of the 5k-25k games on Vulcan and Outpost bubbles are sometimes 100-500 sectors in size and sanitizing them is rough work to do manually.

Well, 5k... don't invest in a big bubble. Too easy to lose, too difficult to defend. 25k, maybe. But turns games require a very different strategy than this.

With a really high turns or unlim game you can afford to fill up a big bad door and gas it up to high heaven. In a turns game you have to be light and mobile, putting all of your figs on the planets you need to protect. It's far too easy to get found building in the 1 or 2 big bubbles and you're not going to have the turns to fill it anyway. Focus on staying small, light and mobile until you can finally defend yourself.

That's why I assumed unlim, because big bubble strategy is really only feasible there.

HEH, if you are playing in a 25K universe, it aint Tradewars.

I assume that is supposed to be 20K.
