Many people complain about noobs getting podded, no mercy, etc.
While it would be nice to help them out, sometimes it isn't possible. I was in a high turn game, and let a new player live, even though I should have kept him #SD#. When I came back in the game later, half my grid was gone. It wasn't just him, but because I left one alive, others decided they could hit figs too.
I had spent weeks capping all the other player's planets, and trying to lock up the game. It took more work to kill off the other players, and prolonged a game that should have ended this week.
It would be nice to be able to take them under our wings all the time, but when a game is nearly over, it is hard to just drop everything and say hey, come on in, kill my grid!
I did suggest that he pick a different game and I would help him, but in the end- he had to go.

noobs who complain of getting capped need to realize it's gameplay. You're not going to win a game by letting everyong live. they needo to learn to cap OSO, then destroy his grid

Thats not a good excuse to me because if you had stayed on the game and not "come back later" it never would have happened. Do you hear yourself?
"I have to kill n00bs because some times I don't play as actively as I should", thats what I heard from your post. It sounds like you lost the grid because for "a short while" you weren't actively defending it.
What I did hear is that n00bs deserve the same amount of mercy shown to everyone else (ie None)

This is sad, their killing my grid so I had to kill him, although he doesn't know how to play, doesn't know what a grid is, but I had to kill him.
I could understand if you did it this way, hes killing my grid, so I fotoned him, and towed him to fed, then talked to him and gave him so pointers and explained how the game is played.
But come on the mentality of justify killing noobs over and over is old and unjustified, their is always a better way. Sure some one get in attitude but those are far and few between.

Baited,
The photoning part I agree with but there is probably no way to tow them to Fed Space because they still have figs.
But the real problem was Oso's, if he was actively defending his grid at the time he could have photoned all of the players tearing up his grid. As it was, he had to kill everything in sight first or be photoned by the enemy who were actively defending their grid. LOL Its a a terrible cycle... The abused become the abusers

Fotons are disabled in this game.
I live in the NW, and so I lost power (hence the short while).
So either I kill them for hitting my grid, or I let them take it down. Which should I do? Tell them not to hit my figs, and say I'll be very very cross with them if they do? LOL
I'd let them drive around in pods first...
The point is this- they get into a game weeks old and expect to have a chance, and whine when they end up dead. They should at least know when they look at the game stats that they have no chance, and should wait for a rebang.

Who needs an excuse to destroy a player in a game of war? Regardless of a player's skill level we destroy or get destroyed.
Helping new players learn the game is good, and contrary to your apparent belief, I have helped a lot of players other than just SDing them. However, I do not play this game to be a "teacher" all of the time. I play it the way it is designed - trade/steal, build, attack.
Treat someone as a noob and let your guard down, and you find out that they just got a fed killer script and you are now out of the game - or that alias you thought was a noob was someone such as Alexio.
Noobs come and either stay in the game and progress, or they leave because someone did not play TradeBuddies with them. Either way is fine.

What a great day it was
Warping through the galaxy like Oz
Finding noobs here and there
Hearing them cry, "Hey, no fair!"
As I ran, I knew I had the grand plan,
Hit the noobs hard and fast
For I knew that they would not last.
On to Stardock I did go
Noobs arriving would make a nice show.
I found one who thought he could fight,
Now he has been shown the true light.
Off to Terra with an evil grin,
I knew I could find a noob once again.
With a laugh and twinkle in my eye
I pressed the F5 key, and told him g'bye.
Noobs out in space hitting my grid
Shame for him that he didn't stay hid.
A question was asked, twarp to engage,
Another noobie leaves in a fit of rage.
All of the players are dismayed
But that is how this game is played.
All the players are destroyed and that is right
Now it is time for me to say g'night.

ya know, I don't know how to play this game and survive (wanna bet?) but I help people out when ever I can (including turning butch onto twx back in early 05 and other players since). There are players out there that will justify killing noobs anyway they can (maybe the noobs are the only players they can kill?) and there are players that will pod and leave an explanationj as to how and why (me). There are also some very experienced players out there that will still scream bloody murder if you kill them. Bottom line isv - IT'S A GAME. "Want Some Cheese?"

Or maybe find 'em - surround 'em with just enough figs to get their attention. Trouble is if you give 'em a little love tap, they think they are bulletproof because you couldn't kill them. Then they get arrogant and somebody else robs you of the satisfaction. Or they really are Alexio out testing some new scripts under an alias and he springs it on ya.
BTW - as for the suggestion of photon and drag to sd, you can enter sector - then he can drop figs you lock on and he picks his figs back up - tow him wherever - it does work.

Sure it does Mao, but have you ever met a n00b that trusting after being photoned?

Needless to say, he was hiding at dock and only spent a few seconds in a pod before I relieved him of that.
If he had had a different attitude, I would have treated him differently. Being a jerk from the start made my decision easy.

y can't we just be allies?
ROFLOL
War sang, "Why can't we be friends?"
Seems like i heard that a lot growing up.
Ranks right there on my list with, "I love you, I'm just not in love with you."

But you see what I am talking about?
One of my friends is now losing a game because he offered the new guy a "truce" instead of taking him out.
What more can I say?
