New Year New Tournament
Held At Darkstarbase.no-ip.org


I was looking for some ideas on a tournament. Here is what I have so far.
20k sector/ Unlimited Turns, 4 hour time limit. 15 deaths. Start time would be January 1.

As far as corps, I think a lottery style, everyone that is going to play will have a number, the ceo’s would pick 5-7 numbers and that would determine the corps. No one would know who they playing with until the day of bang.
Edits would also be unknown until day of bang, just the sectors, time limit, and deaths.


What edits do people want to see? Any other ideas are appreciated.

As in the other thread on this subject, the game edits are extremely critical to this type of game. Unlimited moves simply mean that the game progresses much faster than a turn limited game.

As I've posted, the edits for unlims that are around could not be used because they are designed for a cash and kill game. Truces suck and are not viable IMHO.

Kane has some good ideas, and hopefully we have given him some others. I was given a very good suggestion on something that would need to be done to further make the game last and still be playable (enjoyable). I will forward this suggestion to Kane and hopefully a script that can make it happen as soon as I get it written - and as with all suggestions, it is up to him to evaluate for use.

Kane and DarkStarBase are putting forth the effort to make an unlim a reality rather than just taking the attitude that it can't be done.

Now, will this actually be something that can be pulled off? I don't know for certain, but it is worth trying. As has been said in the other thread, even 1k move games have ended quickly, but we do not say they are not worth playing.

Well Prom instead of unlimited turns why not just have a high turns tourney instead. Like 5k or more and of course you better have it as a 20k universe or that will end quick.. laff No aliens will help quite a bit too and if you really wanna make it a pain in the Butt turn on rob delay! haha and also how bout slow Butt cit times.. All can factor on a longer lasting game.. JMHO

I think Kane/Doom is also considering a high turns rather than unlimited as an option - don't know for certain. A two second rob delay would make it a pain, but a livable one, in comparision to other things that could be done. I believe every red script that is out right now can be broken by game edits, but that would just frustrate red playing non-scripters to the point of quiting the game. Come to think of it, even the scripters would probably give up playing red - I think I would because the script to handle it would be a nightmare to write and the possible credits earned would easily be passed by a blue.

The major challenge I think is keeping the game enjoyable, yet not the typical unlim killfest that is over in a couple of hours.

Yes a high turns game is an option and might not be a bad idea.The rob delay would help slow it down but like you said will make people just ppt. On the other hand there has been some good ideas.

Funny thing with PPT... if you use low port density and a small universe as was suggested earlier... all of the ports get drained quickly. Essentially people will PPT till the ports dry up then SSM or SST after they're done.

LOL exactly how are you going to get the cash to make your own ports? All the planets would have to start with product... or you'd have to *shudder* use alien farming.

Get in play the game get it over with

These settings promote faster ending. If people dont act stupid and never move, I see it lasting 48 hours tops

If there is no ports, however do you farm?
