I haven't tried to code a script for TWX, but it could be handy. If you haven't tried it out, now is a good time, as the game just started 8 days ago (You should have some fuel to play with)
The current game is now 800k sectors, and lasts for ~30 days.
If you can play tradewars , you should be able to figure this out pretty quickly, although I have been playing for years, and I don't have all the answers.
The galaxies are broken down into different types such as bars, towers, spirals, etc. Each of them have different ways of navigating efficiently.
Mapping a galaxy and finding all the planets and pushing ports to them, then making an efficient path will get you a long way.
Mapping is probably also the only way of finding bubbles.
When starting out, you will need to computrade for a bit till you have enough cash to buy some equipment.
You can play via web mode, telnet mode, or the client port at 666 which also sends game data appended to the received string. I have info on data that is sent down the client port for anyone that wants to write their own client.
Here is link to somewhat of a quickstart guide.

micromanagement is the key to the game. Use your fuel wisely. Find a resort and learn how to build farms. Defend.
Good luck
