For those playing on Outpost-4 TradeWars, our DNS server has crashed and I'm away in another province for the next 4 days. However you can access the TWGS via the backup domain:
telnet://outpost-4.dyndns.org:2002
I apologize to everyone for the problems. The wife contacted me about the server rebooting, getting to the welcome screen, and rebooting again, and again, and again. So I told her to turn it off and I have grabbed a new server while on my trip. Unfortunately, the websites will be down as well. I am due to return home on 27 Aug 2006 at 2000 PST.
Again I am sorry for the problems. We hope all will understand and will have everything restored as soon as I return.

Outpost-4 BBS can also be accessed via the backup domain:
telnet://outpost-4.dyndns.org:23
This backup domain is always available if the regular domain is down.

For those that knew our server was down from 23 Aug-29 Aug 2006, we're back online. I just re-entered all DNS, and installed a secondary DNS server. I apologize for the inconvenience, but all is back to normal. Websites are back, and I will re-enable the score and log tasks.
Thanks for the patience.

Seems I'm still going to be home based for a while. So in the meantime I'm installing a third server to be in line in case the main goes down while I am away on training. So that will make #5 machine
Hopefully the site has resumed. May take the day for my DNS to reach the root domains, but if there are any issues, let me know.

Ok I must be suffering from the lack of beer this week after my trip to Alberta...
Our main web server/DNS crashed and I fired up a backup on VMWare. Well this morning I made a mistake and deleted the container file by mistake. So our site was down as I reinstalled Windows, then re-installed a backup I had. Unfortunately, it will affect the forums on our site as I did not get a chance to backup SQL before the hard drive crashed on the main server.
So as I type this, the backup is 25% done, and I hope to have it completed shortly. I am really sorry to those that play for the hassle this has been.

Welcome to the world of IT.
There are no atheists in foxholes, and there aren't any during a tape restore either!

Yes well I had the server back up in VMWare, but accidentally deleted the directory that housed the container file for that server. Now it's all fixed, and I made a backup to DVD this time. Not going to make the same mistake again anytime soon

Until you lose the DVD. Then all hell is going to break loose!

Nope, got that covered too.. One of the things I like is redundancy, especially when it comes to backups. I have two DVD's: one at the desk, one locked in a safe. Also have it backed up to a remote site. So I'm good to go....

To our players, both regulars and new;
(I took this post off my forum to bring here in case some of you missed it off our site.)
I want to apologize for the hassel you have had here in the last week. First my main server crashed, including DNS. Then when I returned I got it back up, but it crashed. I fired up a backup server in VMWare but accidentally deleted the container file for that server. Now we're back up. Unfortunately, if there were posts made in our forum between 30 Aug 2006 and 31 Aug 2006 (up to 1400 PST), they are no longer present. I did not want anyone thinking they were manually deleted.
So what does this mean to you? Well currently I'm running most of everything on the 1 machine, which is a dual processor 2.4 Ghz. I am forced to use VMWare on the machine to run our main Web/DNS server until I can put the cash together for an independant server. Until then, you may experience more lag than normal. However, please keep me posted if there are major issues. So I have a profile in XP that loads the TWGS, and then I fire up VMWare to load my 2000 Server for the websites. Until a new server is available, this is the best I can do.
Hopefully most will be able to still get around both in the site and the game. If a major issue appears, let me know and I'll deal with it as quickly and efficiently as possible.
