Several years ago, Tri-Write Development did an addon for both versions 2 and 3 of Trade Wars 2002, called Trade Wars Services. The archives were SERVEWB7.ZIP (v.2) and SERVEWB8.ZIP (v.3). Unfortunately, I lost SERVEWB8.ZIP in a crash, and have not been able to locate it since. The only difference between the 2 were the player data fields. I've been unable to locate SERVEWB8.ZIP either on the Internet or elsewhere. However, I've had several players request an add-on similar to Trade Wars Services, that would allow moving and management of credits, ships, fighters, planets, shields, mines, colonists, commodities, etc. If anyone can help me locate SERVEWB8.ZIP -- or would be willing to write a similar shareware program...or direct me to any addons for version 3 of TW 2002 (Gold Edition), I'd greatly appreciate it.

The only site I found that came close to what you were talking about had this on it but none of the links were active, and I don't think it would work with the current version of v3 tho. And the one you are looking for prolly won't either, but we prolly will never know.

TWHELP81.ZIP 294,305 04/02/94 Trade Wars Helper release 8.1 is a
terminal program used ONLINE with the BBS door game "Trade Wars 2002".
It maintains a database of sectors with the known port and warp to
information. Several commands are available to utilize this data in
addition to commands that automate repetitive processes and map the TW
universe GRAPHICALLY. Don't leave FedSpace without it!
TWSOUNDA.ZIP 284,651 04/04/94 Digitized Sound Files for Trade Wars 2.0
Requires TWTERM23.ZIP or later. Phasers, Quasars, Genesis, Warp
engines and more.
TWTERM23.ZIP 215,008 04/04/94 3D EGA Term for playing Trade Wars 2.0.
Graphics, Sound Blaster support. Includes, Mapper, Level-Diagram
mapping, and more. Get more done faster and wiser while on-line or
off. Includes it's own easy to use script language.

The problem is I already HAVE SERVEWB7.ZIP -- that is Trade Wars Services, but while it has a fossil driver to work with telnet, it is for version 2 of TW 2002...which was NOT created with a fossil driver, so that won't work with telnet. I need SERVEWB8.ZIP...Trade Wars Services for version 3 of TW 2002.

Wait, I'm confused. Does TWServices v7 work with TW v3.x or not? Because you said the only difference was the player data fields.

Please clarify.

The filename for Trade Wars Services was a bit of a misnomer. SERVEWB7.ZIP (beta 7 of Trade Wars Services) worked with wide beta 8 of Trade Wars 2002 version 2. SERVEWB8.ZIP (beta 8 of Trade Wars Services) worked with Trade Wars 2002 version 3. From what I could tell, the player (and I guess the rest of the game) data between version 2 and version 3 of Trade Wars was quite a bit different.

Update: Just to check, I installed TW Services that went for version 2 of TW 2002 into the directory which has version 3 of TW 2002. When I ran it in local mode, I got a runtime error 100 (disk read error)...an attempt was made to read past the end of a file most often...something is corrupted in the record pointers. My guess is that TW Services can't find all of the data it needs to work with the game. I do know that when it worked, with v. 2 of TW 2002 (that's the one where the game does not have fossil/telnet support), if a player is not active in the game at all, or is dead (Ship Destroyed), TW Services won't let a player use it. Since I have not been able to locate the authors of the program on the Internet...let alone the file itself, it'd be nice if someone could create a shareware program similar to what TW Services offers. While I can write a batchfile, my programming ENDS at my VCR. :)
